A potential short-term improvement is to increase the permitted rate of full load harvesting from -250 kW to -350 kW. Sure the clipping will be more aggressive but over a shorter period. In practice I'm not sure how well that works. Stop them from doing full-load harvesting, super clipping turns into normal clipping but the laps will be plagued by lift and coast like no tomorrow. A no-go in my opinion. Perhaps they can decouple the MGU rates. Allow 350 kW max harvest but only 250 kW max deployment. Shorter harvesting periods and more consistent deployment in acceleration zones. I haven't thought this one out so much in all honesty but something that springs to mind. The MGU-H would have helped a lot. Perhaps they should consider making it a spec component if it's really such a deterrent to new entrants. Again I haven't necessarily considered all the complications regarding such a device. Just a thought. All signs point toward the power split being too optimistic with the single energy source in place. The driver has very little say when the car is always fighting an energy deficit. So to minimizing this algorithmic style of driving would be to feed the starved cars. Slightly less optimal deployment doesn't derail a lap. For this to succeed, you need to find energy elsewhere. Otherwise, the answer is increasing the available energy. A more ICE focused split is required. I'd be all for 900 kW cars if we were to continue down this route. Not a short-term solution by any stretch of the imagination though.
