@wileycwj My hot take is that California actually isn’t more expensive to live in when you adjust for access to economic opportunity and proximity to recreation. It is only expensive if you choose a business or career path better suited for a low cost geography…

my hot take is that most of the “it’s too expensive to live” claims are really just people not being aware of lifestyle creep of the last 30yrs a starter home where i grew up is approx $100/sqft if you adjust for inflation, it’s exactly the same price as it was in 1990 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Camp4 There is a vintage of duplexes built in Milwaukee from same era that have similar effect. Often get overlooked because of the more ornate 1920’s vintage or new product, but very solid homes built for families to grow in for generations.

A lot of people would say this is an ugly house but I find a certain beauty in these simple 1950’s homes. Maybe it's nostalgia for a bygone era. I walked with the postwoman for a couple blocks and she knew every family (including pets) by name. I saw vintage cars in driveways. Chain link fences. Young families, elderly couples, and everything in between. It's a distinctly middle class vibe that has been lost. This 1000 square-foot home is in a great location (a short walk from Fort Worth's most exclusive country club) and would sell for about $250k—a great starter home for a young family. Maybe the way forward in housing is to take a step back in time.

@HESaBSG Very industry and path dependent. For someone committed to finance at prestigious firm you are likely right… Someone who isn’t quite sure (90% of 18year olds), the downside protection of free college at a school rapidly improving its rep is absolutely worth consideration.

@HESaBSG I think you are right directionally, but you should look into Alabamas financial aid program for national merit scholars + high achievers before you call someone you don’t know not smart enough… Alabama for free is very very compelling.

@hamricky2 @BigTucsonDad Moneyball was never about OBP, especially the book. The “moneyball approach” had been going on in baseball for years at that point. It was about finding undervalued players by going all in on that approach. It’s about doing it cheaply more than anything
