@GoddessofGrain Everyone is in favor of spending cuts until it impacts them.

Hearing a lot of county FSA offices are having to shut their doors to the public for a day or multiple days each week just to try to keep up because they are so short staffed. Are you seeing the same thing where you are? It seems to be very Indiana-centric right now?

@Johnkempf When farmland is more about preserving wealth and less about producing food, paying for it with crops and livestock is more difficult. If you had a good tomato crop in north central Indiana in the early 60’s, you could pay off land in one year.

My grandfather paid for his farm in the late 1940's and early '50's in 4 years, milking dairy cows, raising hogs and chickens, etc... Historical data shows many farmers paid for farms in 5-7 years in this time period, and through the early 60's. As a thought exercise/challenge: If you had to pay for a farm in 4 years, how would you do that today? What would you grow, and where would you sell it?

@GGunthorp Honest question- 50% of all wheat is exported as is 80% of all cotton. If we lose international markets wouldn’t that dictate that we produce more than we can consume domestically, meaning we need roughly 50% fewer wheat farmers and 80% fewer cotton farmers? what happens then?

Only way to preserve agriculture is to make farmers independent of government and conglomerate interests profitable again. We don’t have that. Farming can’t afford the land it’s on. Agree? #AgTwitter
