Celebrated my birthday with a 105kg squat and a look back on all I achieved outside of work. Let’s see what 35 brings 😊 ( fingers crossed it’s a 150kg deadlift and a pull up 🤣)

How do we motivate people for change? Extrinsic motivators ("prods") work in some contexts but they often undermine ("crowd out") intrinsic motivation for doing things & they can backfire disastrously. That's because human behaviour is influenced by underlying norms, cultural contexts & intrinsic motivations that simple rewards and punishments cannot address. Sound leadership is about attracting those who want what you want & leading them with shared values in pursuit of a shared purpose. #more-34041" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">digitaltonto.com/2024/why-incen…. Great day today at the Whole Family Mental Health & Recovery conference in Dublin today. Lots of learning to take home with us, and most importantly the lived experience of families showing the importance of family focused practice in adult mental health.

I am convinced that we must declare a moratorium on all deficit-focused and damage-centered research. This research pathologises and is often used to enforce harmful social engineering policies. Researchers focusing solely on problem identification should turn their critical gaze back on themselves and their harmful practices. Researcher, first, do no harm!

New ACEs study confirms link between early childhood ACES & increased alcohol/drug use during teens. Also finds that these teens tend to use substances to cope with the mental health impact of their trauma/abuse (it's not just peer pressure). news.uct.ac.za/article/-2024-…

Held first session of @UlsterUni short-course on early adversity and developmental trauma for care experienced young people on Tuesday. Was most meaningful experience I've ever had in 25 years in academia. Such courage and resilience. Never underestimate care experienced people.

🚨 All mental health care providers should proactively involve carers. That's one of the things our Mental Health Unpaid Carers Charter is fighting for. For #CarersWeek, take a look at our 6️⃣ asks and find out more on our website 👉 rethink.org/carerscharter

“Infant Mental Health” isn’t about applying concepts of adult mental health (diagnosis, medication, talking therapies) to babies. It’s about creating the relationship, family, community, societal & political environments for babies to develop & thrive emotionally. #IMHAW2024

When I say "adults", I don't mean "parents". I mean adults. In personal & in professional roles. Britain is a culture that loves focusng on behaviour & skippng over the feelings part. Trauma-informed approaches ask us to do something counter-cultural: To pay attentn to feelings.
Suzanne Zeedyk@suzannezeedyk

When adults talk to young people about their behaviour without also talking about their feelings, that produces shame. One of the reasons there is a backlash against trauma-informed practice in t UK is that this shift asks us to pay attention to feelings, not just behaviour.
