The pay review body’s 3.5% pay ‘uplift’ is hugely disappointing for SAS and Consultants whose value and pay have been eroded for years. Senior doctors are standing together to push this Government to commit to improvements. On the 11 May we will open ballots for Industrial Action in England for both SAS and Consultants. @GMB Quite right. Time they dug their heels in . Resident doctors are well paid. 37% add on for night shift working. Tough long hours, true dedication required, but well paid already. Should it be expected to continually have a high percentage salary inc when the country is broken

Sir Keir Starmer has issued an ultimatum to resident doctors to call off their strikes or lose the current deal on the table. The Prime Minister has threatened to withdraw an offer of thousands of extra specialty NHS training posts if the British Medical Association follows through on its threat of a six-day strike after Easter. Last week, the resident doctors' committee rejected a pay rise offer of up to 7.1% without putting it to members for a vote.

@TheBMA Did doctors not already get a pay rise? The country is bankrupt (except for politicians pay), you are all on an excellent pay structure as it is.

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute. We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.

Wrong in every level. Unions are often guilty of dragging members up the garden path. They seem to forget at times that there is no money in the pot. Salaries and bonuses cannot be continually and/or annually‘renegotiated’ using the constant threat of strike action
