The Global Symposium on Credit Guarantee and the 38th ACSIC Conference kicked off in Mumbai today with inaugural addresses by Shri Manoj Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, Small Industries Development Bank of India and Chairman, Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises, along with Dr. Rajneesh, IAS, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Shri Manish Sinha, CEO, CGTMSE-India. The opening remarks underscored how the symposium brings together global leaders—across geographies and stages of development—united by a common goal: expanding MSME access to formal #Credit. In the face of evolving economic risks and rising expectations around #Sustainability and #Inclusion, the emphasis remained on building resilient financial systems and leveraging technology-driven solutions. They also highlighted the importance of cross-learning—sharing successful models, lessons from challenges, and identifying practices that can be adapted across countries to strengthen #MSME financing ecosystems globally. Reflecting on India’s scale of progress, it was noted that credit guarantees have supported approximately 3.7 million MSMEs so far, with cumulative approvals of around USD 164 billion, including nearly USD 49 billion in the last financial year alone. Notably, about 325,000 new entrepreneurs were brought into the formal credit system in the past year. At the same time, a significant gap remains—against an estimated MSME credit demand of approximately USD 450 billion, the credit guarantee market stands at about USD 83 billion, covering only around 18–19% of the need.
