Instantly recognisable #Raduga publications. I have a similar novel but published by Raduga Samarkand! Zaheer ud Deen Babur aka Starry Nights by Qadirov translated into #Urdu by Manzar Salim 1985/86.Very funky orthography for some letter combinations and words. Prized possession.

People's Publishing House in Delhi's Connaught Place used to have a small but nice collection of Urdu books published by Raduga/Progress. PPH had their own Urdu books too, like this collection of Partition stories 'Kitne Toba Tek Singh', that I bought many years ago.

💾😂 It’s actually wild that Gen Z has never experienced the pure serotonin of watching MS-DOS DEFRAG do its little block dance. Your 4GB 386 is choking on life? Just run DEFRAG and stare at it like it’s 1993 Netflix. Don’t fight the hypnosis… become one with the pixels.😵‍💫

@karanvasudeva I've also faced this a couple of times, especially for expensive foreign editions which turned out to be print on demand types with run of the mill ink, binding, and paper. Makes one wary.

Disappointing to buy a book on Amazon and receive a print-on-demand copy with faint low-res printing on the lowest grade paper. Went and checked, printing a quality version myself would have cost ₹331 instead of the ₹1459 I paid. Hope author gets nice royalties at least.

The Empire Strikes Back is on, and I realized the AT-AT commander on Hoth is the Guy Who Chose Poorly in The Last Crusade. Then my wife tells me that's the same guy who played Grand Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones. 🤯

James Brown once fined his band $50 for missing a single cue He ran the tightest ship in funk. Rehearsals were brutal, and Brown would signal with his fingers to call out anyone off the beat His response when someone complained? “I’m paying you to be on time and on the one”

“I lifted my rifle and fired and he fell dead instantly—a glorious living creature that had kept me thrilled for hours turned into a bloody carcass. This was such an anti-climax to a wonderful experience that I lost all desire to kill tigers from that moment.”
