Dirty tricks squared: Paul Holden discusses his excellent book Fraud @StarmertheFraud dissecting Morgan McSweeney's campaign against #Corbyn & Labour left - and unpacks the targeting of Holden himself. Catch The Party Line podcast @wereontheditch @harrybrowne @BigPaulieDoyle

The story is pretty straightforward and pretty widely ignored. Paul Holden, author of @StarmertheFraud , sets out clearly for @wereontheditch how Keir's Irish sidekick plotted the fall of @jeremycorbyn and the return of a Mandelson-Epstein approach to power

I sometimes criticize people in my mind for their unsavory tweets but i have a very very high potentially unclearable bar for doing so publicly if their people are being slaughtered and they are suffering in a way I can’t imagine. I’d say some shit too

The Ditch: The Party Line | Episode 1: Ireland and the Snakes 'It has never been more important to keep the triple lock. We're at a moment of unprecedented global instability over the last 80 years. And the government is at this particular moment planning to remove one of the only safeguards that keeps us out of war. And it's very pertinent at the moment because of all of the Europeans rushing to the aid of the US. And the embarrassment of Ireland as Micheál Martin goes to Washington with the bowl of Shamrock. We can't participate in that European mission.'

The Ditch: The Party Line | Episode 1: Ireland and the Snakes 'When publications like the Irish Times talk about global threats, they're not talking about Shannon Airport being used as a de facto military base by a nation that drops bombs on schools. That's not what they're talking about. There are only very specific threats as they perceive them.'

@ijbailey @malachybrowne @nytimes tbc It’s a critique of the editorial standards more than the DI team or even Malachy as such. He was just responding so I thought he could shed some light on the double standard of attribution of bombings

I’m still weighing this critique. @malachybrowne and @nytimes did great, important work on the Iranian girls school bombing. It is fair to ask if this process is used uniformly. Maybe it is. But if not, why? There maybe a good explanation if it isn’t. But the question is legit.
Adam Johnson@adamjohnsonCHI

Malachy: does NYT have the same process of spending days confirming if Russia or Iran are responsible for a particular bombing when they are bombing a country? A simple “US-Israeli bombing” construction would suffice, this level of thoroughness is 100% never seen for Enemy States

@malachybrowne @AssalRad Fair play, Malachy, fine work. But why are the only two possible explanations offered for a US strike “it was a mistake” or “it was a mistake”?

I reported this story and have been working around the clock since Saturday to cover the deaths and obtain definitive evidence so that we can confidently assign responsibility. We've been reviewing photos of the dust covered bodies of children and verifying their names against the names scrawled on little coffins. We've been debunking false claims about the attack and that the harrowing cemetery photo isn't real. And while it appeared obvious to many early on that the U.S. or Israel hit the school, it takes days to sift through, pinpoint and analyze the evidence. It took four days before a new satellite image we ordered came through so we could confidently assess the damage and the types of weapons used. All that reporting and cross checking and the production of the visuals showing it takes time. But it ultimately allows us to more confidently assert U.S. responsibility, explain our rationale and add to the body of reporting that officials should be challenged with. It's easy to critique a headline, and I agree language matters, but you diminish the reporting. We're not justifying anything, we're stating where the reporting points responsibility, and quoting legal experts on the laws of armed conflict. Here's a gift link nytimes.com/2026/03/05/wor…

Official statements placing U.S. forces in the area – along w/ analysis of social posts, videos, sat. images – suggest U.S. forces bombed a school in Minab, Iran during strikes targeting an IRGC base. Over 150 were killed, Iranian officials say. nytimes.com/2026/03/05/wor…

An unarmed Iranian ship was invited, along with the U.S., to be part of an Indian Naval exercise, and its sailors paraded on land before the president. The U.S. at the last minute pulled out of the exercise and instead attacked the Iranian ship with a torpedo. Breaking with all norms of civilization and warfare, we then refused to rescue the drowning survivors. The Sri Lanka Navy was left to pull the dead bodies from the water. I am hard pressed to think of any other nation throughout history that would do something so cowardly and despicable. We are genuinely in a league of our own, and American media — mostly shrugging off the bombing of a girls school and acting as if carpet bombing Tehran is a normal military tactic — is deeply complicit.
Kanwal Sibal@KanwalSibal

The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise. We were the hosts. I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless. The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president . The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship’s presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind. The US has ignored India’s sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India’s invitation. We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack. Our“responsibility” is at a moral and human plane. A word of condolence by the Indian Navy ( after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.

STATEMENT BY PAUL HOLDEN IN RESPONSE TO RESIGNATION OF JOSH SIMONS Josh Simons doesn’t deserve to be an MP, let alone a Cabinet Minister. I will now work to make sure Parliamentary authorities hold him to account if our weak and supine Prime Minister will not. Simons, while a director of Labour Together, hired a reputation firm, APCO Worldwide, that used a series of invasive techniques to investigate me, my colleagues and my family, and a range of other British and American journalists. They found out where I lived and with whom. Simons made entirely false, defamatory and conspiratorial claims about me, my colleagues and my family. His actions threatened my livelihood and reputation as was well as that of my colleagues. It risked undermining ongoing work we were doing tackling grand corruption around the world, including in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies. It has caused me and my young family significant distress. It is appalling that Simons cannot bring himself to apologise to me and my family after his conduct towards us has been exposed. Let’s be clear: the contract signed with APCO by Simons sought to ‘proactively undermine’ factually accurate public interest stories that dealt with serious unlawful conduct by the most senior people in the incoming Labour administration, many of whom were Simons’ personal friends and political allies. This was intended to undermine not just my work, but the work of all of the journalists – including Gabriel Pogrund and Harry Yorke of the Sunday Times and Matt Taibbi – working with me on these stories. My investigations sought to expose the rot at the heart of the political project that has since brought “Petie” Mandelson into the centre of government. They were motivated by serious concerns about this project’s approach to good governance, civil liberties and basic decency – all of which have been entirely vindicated. Sir Laurie Magnus’ investigation must also be criticised. I wrote to Sir Laurie this past week asking for an opportunity to give evidence. I had matters about which only I knew and which should have been considered. It is deeply unfortunate that Sir Laurie has not sought the evidence or opinions of the victims of Simons’ unacceptable behaviour. I believe Simons’ statements about my book and its treatment of the very serious issue of antisemitism in the Labour Party are defamatory and wrong. I am instructing lawyers with a view to bringing defamation proceedings in this respect.

Here’s what Lawrence Wilkerson, former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, had to say about the US attacking Iran in @ShadowWorldFilm It’s terrifying: "And as Tony Zinni, former Central Command Commander, said: "If you liked Iraq, you'll love Iran." That is a ten to fourteen year, three to four trillion dollar invasion at the end of which the world, Western Asia, will look not much different than it does right now, it'll still be in turmoil, still be in chaos, and 70 plus million Iranians, 52 or 53% of cohesive Persians, will hate our living guts.”
Nicholas Guyatt@NicholasGuyatt

Twenty years after the publication of apocalyptic Christian pastor John Hagee's unhinged book JERUSALEM COUNTDOWN, which urged the American government to attack Iran and trigger the End Times, we have far-right governments in the US and Israel which seem poised to do just that
