@slapadubadowski @neogeo8man If ROM hacks were a western invention, americans would've just called Kaizo ROM hacks "difficult ROM hacks". There would've been no misunderstanding or anything lost in translation over what "Kaizo" meant if it didn't originate IN Japan!

It’s so hypocritical since Square Enix have lost the source code to many of their older games like Final Fantasy Tactics and relied on these same fans that Japanese fans are criticizing. Game preservation will always be better than corporations and their “wishes”.

@neogeo8man Japan does have stricter copyright laws than other countries when it comes to stuff like fair use, BUT it's worth pointing out how Japan still has its own underground fan scene of ROM hacks etc. despite the stricter laws.

It's not just in this case, but there seems to be a very different cultural view around IP in Japan than I'm used to seeing. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but it feels like "If the company doesn't offer it to you, then you have no right want it"

In general I think marvel and dc should actually scout talent early and help them grow. Shooter did try that at valiant too and that would end up leading to stray bullets. I think we always should try to get new blood and creators in especially staring in comics

Is it safe to say that Spinosaurus is arguably more of a household name than Tyrannosaurus at this point? Especially in light of recent discoveries, representations, and “dinosaur kid” nostalgia

@Exalted_Speed It's wild seeing a realistically ripped physique for Terry's classic suit, since Bruce Timm's art style inherently makes him look slimmer than what he'd be in a more realistic art style.

@comics_jeff @Exalted_Speed That's nice - for me I prefer asking someone "what version of the character resonates with them personally", instead of trying to find a "one true ideal" version of the character everyone loves that, by its nature, can't exist.

I mean yeah? But I think it’s interesting that Superboy as a concept kind of plays into how sidekicks died after the silver age and maybe skipping to Superman shows dc was trying to to be serious which is fun to talk on.

@Oberon_40k @Exalted_Speed I only first knew of the Metal Men because a DC reading order site I used had a ton of their issues... for some reason, honestly I have no idea why lol. It was only later I found out that, yes, BATB had an episode for them. Because of course they did.

@harryhenry6 @Exalted_Speed As a kid watching this you never really get the impression these were obscure characters. I just assumed they were all known recurring characters which blindsided me finding out most people never even heard of The Metal Men or how Batmite rarely appears in anything.

@comics_jeff @Exalted_Speed And just to clarify my own position: I'm not anti-Clark Superboy, in fact my personal version of Superman's history does include him, but it's all depending on what you're trying to tell with your story.

@comics_jeff @Exalted_Speed Just for clarification, are you okay with Superboy-less origin retellings? Because if every retelling HAS to include Superboy, that causes problems if your version of Superman is doing something different and can't include Superboy in there.

@maZombies @Exalted_Speed It's tricky to work that out in animation because you always have to take into account lead times, but even keeping that in mind it does add up
