The Norwegians are drilling in the same basins and are finding billions of barrels of oil—some of which they in turn export to the UK. How does that benefit the environment? At least the miserablist hairshirt efforts to reduce consumption pursued by the eco-warriors have some internal logic. Maintaining consumption but cutting production while buying the stuff elsewhere instead does not. thefreemanmag.substack.com/p/power-strugg…

“If we did keep the pound – and that is highly questionable – it would not mean any exemption from the moves to fiscal union that have been put in place to prop up the euro, and that apply to all EU states.”

.@DanielJHannan: “Even if Britain were allowed to keep the pound, and even if we somehow revived our old opt-out from the Schengen Zone, much has changed.”

When Andy Burnham’s virtue signalling is measured against his performance we can see that his record as Mayor has been a failure. This post scrutinises his record on homelessness…manchestermill.co.uk/stop-looking-f…

From hundreds dying due to poor care in Mid Staffs NHS to the “grooming” gangs, Andy Burnham’s response to scandals is to try to cover them up, not tackle the causes.

@Gary7gmg @spectator It would be very odd if there wasn't some improvement after all that spending. The question is whether it was a success relative to other places and whether it was value for money given the amount that was spent.

Bus use in Greater Manchester is DOWN by 12 per cent since Andy Burnham became Mayor. (Via @spectator.) He’s not for us. He’s for they/them.

@Gary7gmg @spectator I quite understand why - he didn't want to antagonise motorists by making the traffic jams worse. But then why spend all the money? £80 million to buy the existing operators’ bus garages for no benefit. Slower journeys. Empty buses. Poor value for money.

@Gary7gmg @spectator Burnham got a lot of taxpayer's money from central government under Boris - ‘bus service improvement’ funding of £95 million plus a billion for capital spending on new buses, bus stations. It had limited impact because he wouldn't add bus lanes.
