We're handling over 100,000 deployments a month now on @Hatchboxio. Hatchbox started as a side project and has now become our core business. It's incredibly hard to bootstrap a product like this when all the competitors are VC-backed, but that didn't stop us from bringing affordable app deployments to the community. ❤️

We've started revamping the @hatchboxio API.
Endpoints now point straight at your apps — less URL segments. New ones too: list apps, inspect processes, read domains.
Nothing breaks today, and there's more on the way.

I've been refactoring some @hatchboxio internals to use Linux drop-in configs as much as possible. If you hand-configure a server, you'll probably edit config files but drop-in configs are much better for automation.

Tip of the week: disk space tight? Consider switching to pnpm which symlinks node_modules from a shared store instead of duplicating it in every release. Hatchbox auto-detects the pnpm-lock.yaml and switches over — no setup needed. Big savings if you run multiple apps per server.

@joemasilotti Thanks for the reply, Joe! The onboarding is something we definitely have high on our priorities to make smoother especially as it seems you're not the only one bringing this up.

@hatchboxio I tried it a while back and got stuck very quickly when getting things set up. The onboarding (or lack there of!) of getting a new server + app running was rough. I didn't really know what I was supposed to do.
Tried it again last month (with Claude) and it's been amazing!

That's Hatchbox. No Dockerfiles to debug, no nginx configs to google at midnight (is anyone still googling though?), no Kubernetes. Connect a server, connect your repo, ship.
Repeat with as many apps as your server can hold!

@jumpstartrails is now testing against Rails main as we anticipate the next version of Rails in the coming months!
This includes the enabling of frozen string literals by default.
We will continue to test against main as time marches on and we see the next release of Rails!

Had a couple old servers running NGINX + Passenger, but last night the security fix in NGINX broke third party modules and took some sites down with unattended upgrades.
Hatchbox Classic is now being deployed with the new @hatchboxio.
The student has become the master.

We've been trying to get better at talking to our customers of @hatchboxio, @GoRails, etc. We added a automated cancellation email to @jumpstartrails apps inspired by @iamAlexTurnbull that specifically asks "What made you cancel?" to get more helpful responses.
