The SNP MP for Moray, Laura Mitchell, took her oath of allegiance while holding a charred stave from the Burning of the Clavie. The Clavie, a burning tar barrel carried through the town of Burghead every January 11th according to the old Julian calendar, is one of Scotland's oldest continuous folk customs. Fragments of the charred barrel are traditionally kept as good luck charms 👇

The Greens, by virtue of their support for Irish, Welsh, and Scottish nationalism, are functionally the only UK-wide party committed to an independent English state. They're technically more of an English nationalist party than Reform, the dominant but ambivalent Unionist party.
