This is genuinely notable, seeing as Boeing’s goal was to get to 2 per month by April. The holdups were (maybe among others) supply chain issues and parts shortages for the gun, ejection seat, and displays, with seperate but similar concerns about the EPAWSS (EW) suite.
Colby Badhwar@ColbyBadhwar

🇺🇸 Just now: The Air Force tells SASC that they are having positive negotiations with Boeing on how F-15EX production could potentially be increased to 3 or even 4 aircraft per month.

@Aviation_Intel Was a story run on the lack of F-15EX MAWS in the end? It wasn’t mentioned in the article from 22nd April “F-15EX Buy Was Just Doubled…”

Buying F-15EX and not springing for the missile approach warning system is absolutely the dumbest thing. $100M fighter, but let's save a few bucks on a key defensive advantage. You are not always going to get a radar spike from a threat, even at altitude.

@RAeSTimR Bringing operation MUM-T to the left. Non-upgraded Typhoon’s could be left in an odd place, will they be able to MUM-T with “ipads” & relying more so on data tracks from AWACS etc. Where will the compute come from if no core computer (“Medulla”) upgrade for AI tasking of ACPs.

@TomSharpe134 @thinkdefence Skyhammer GBAD & APKWS II on Typhoon. Both in the works, a question on timeline and if funded for fielding in Falklands. HAS & decoys for Typhoon a consideration, as at all airbases.

@thinkdefence 100%. Tried to tease that out in a different angle on the Falklands 'issue' - what if they flew drones from a FV into MPA? AMRAAM or Sky Sabre are going to get pricy/run out v quickly...

I dont subscribe to the drones change absolutely everything school of opinion but are we being complacent about threat?. Does our training, doctrine and equipment reflect likely realities?

Demon was a very clever little UAV that flew in the UK 16 years ago, achieving the first ever controlled flight without mechanical control surfaces. A classic British underdog story of brain over brawn, it inspired a high tech defence UAV and now a full-size American X plane...

@Gabriel64869839 Sept 25 @ Public Accounts Committee, on "The UKs F-35..." When talking about Spear 3. "The US JPO... invited us to put for a UK weapon integration into that digital accelerator..." x.com/hawk_ix/status…
Mk IX Hawk@hawk_ix

@the_engi_nerd SPEAR 3 integration reliant on Block 4, reference to US inviting UK to a "digital accelerator" (screens👇). Any thoughts on the benefits this might provide vs prior methods of integration, and if it's inclusion in the DA would help to bump it up the queue for B4 integration?

Written Answer yesterday says, about SPEAR 3: "fielding this critical F-35 warfighting capability is targeted within joint programme from FY 2028-29". This implies some problems have been overcome because even recently we were hearing "no earlier than early 2030s" (1)

@Rotorfocus For Euro-canard integration, any consideration from MBDA or Diehl (if asked) on air launched CAMM-ER/MR & IRIS_T SLM/X with AR & EO seeker. Duel role as air launched ballistic missile strike (different seeker). Air launched Nightfall another consideration, for certain targets.

@Aviation_Intel You mentioned EX isn’t getting MAWS due to “cost saving”, see this being the case going forward even with the budget plus up?

F-15EX buy now explodes to 267 jets. This is the right call. The original plan made no sense and since writing the article below, that has slowly been corrected. Now they are coming to terms with a USAF without F-15E is a big problem. My original post: twz.com/buying-just-80…

@FennellJW I did mention this a while back. But the structure of MBDA doesn’t help. Reporting indicates crossbow is UK MBDA, as SPEAR3. Where Exocet is France MBDA as examples. x.com/frhoffmann1/st…

Fabian Hoffmann@FRHoffmann1

@hawk_ix Thanks! I actually put down France because that's where MBDA is headquartered, and MBDA advertizes it as an overall MBDA product, at least so far. In any case, might very well be that it ends up being produced primarily in the UK.

@Etienne_Marcuz @RandomModeller I did wonder if Aster30 on a jet powered UCAV with rocket assisted immediate launch would be a good ballistic missile defence option. Resulting in a greater radius of coverage of ballistic missile defence than ground based Aster. In the future a hypersonic UCAV would be better.

@JonA2i Thanks. Yes but the F-15E is (as far I’ve seen) limited to one hard point per wing for the triple rack, & which is in place of the the wing drop tanks. The EX has a hard point further out, which likely can mount pods due to flybywire.

@hawk_ix The fact that they're looking at mounting seven-round pods in triple clusters on up to four underwing pylons is widely known. I think I got it from both RAF and BAE sources. It's the same loadout as is already used by the F-15E.

@Paulblake8A @FennellJW Which is a good low cost option vs a low number of incoming, but seems easy to saturate with multiple incoming, where being able to ripple fire LGRs less easy to saturate. Ideally have both & skyhammer for further out (30km) intercept, at low cost (30k), vs 200-400k (?) for CAMM.

@Gabriel64869839 Discussed this a couple of days ago with @FennellJW . Getting skyhammer fielded might be an option to look at, given turbojet rather than rocket propelled. Though ideally a combination as the French launcher. x.com/hawk_ix/status…
Mk IX Hawk@hawk_ix

@FennellJW RN looking at anything similar to in development French LMP? As launch platform for 1. LGR [close range] (APKWS/martlet/thales) & for future 2. Skyhammer [mid range]; containerised for more rapid deployed(?). Need something below CAMM for drone intercept.

France has decided to add additional close range layer of defence to its frigates, by adding Mistral launchers; having dedicate C-UAS jamming and added and upgrading gun direction with more optronics. Guess who else attempted to have a SHORAD boost but couldn't progress with it

@FennellJW Though currently it’s fitting is for decoy. Would need extra mounted for an interceptor role (eg sky hammer). Isn’t much info on what below might be fitted on (testing was on T23, T45 not mentioned). navylookout.com/royal-navy-tes…
