@DHKITCH @robprogressive yes like the roads and the pavements that are in a disgusting state. Plus the public toilets. Oh they are mainly closed these days. Never mind....Plus homelessness. Well yes I know you pay national tax for that. Then there are the cost of the leaflets telling you what closed

@robprogressive You’re not paying £5,000 for bins. You’re paying for the infrastructure that keeps your area functioning. Reducing that to “bins” is like calling the NHS “just a plaster service.”

Why do I have to pay over £5,000 to have my bins emptied Just because my house is bigger? Or in a different area? It’s the same ‘service’ whether your house is worth £200K or £2 million Up to £5,835 a year to get your bins emptied Oh, and if I ALREADY pay a national tax, why am I paying a local tax on top? Council tax is actually a wealth tax

@robprogressive yes it also pays for local government pensions! Plus care...because no government wants to sort that out.

Is that it? The Chancellor fails to take obvious action to reduce the shortage of oil and gas,and to ease bond market worries driving borrowing rates higher. Allowing more domestic oil and gas production would boost revenues and reduce the scramble for dear imports.

Jeremy Hunt has a pop at Rachel Reeves: “Can I gently ask the chancellor to be less partisan at a time of crisis. “If she has to bring forward difficult measures that are right for the country she will have the support of the whole House. “If she is partisan she won’t.”

@kateferguson4 He is right to say this. By tradition, Chancellors work for the good of the country and often seek advice from former chancellors irrespective of party.

@Scots_Woe_Hey "you do not need to take any other action". No indeed. They will take thousands of pounds to do very little. A good portion will go on paying local government pensions and much of the rest will be spent on what? on services that you also pay income tax for. Double taxation

@MichaelAArouet The reality is that a wealth raises nothing like the money expected. A bit like the second home tax. It may raise £3 billion per year max before expenses; the interest paid on the UK debts is nearly 2.2 billion a WEEK.

Eye-opening chart: the UK is on its way to becoming a socialist paradise. The only issue is that under socialism, everyone is equally poor, not equally wealthy. Every day, 45 tax-paying millionaires leave the UK, taking countless jobs with them. Every day, 3,000 new welfare recipients are added. And what does the government do to stop this slow-motion train wreck? It is seriously discussing a wealth tax. A wealth tax would mean that for quite a few entrepreneurs, their combined annual income tax and wealth tax burden would exceed their income. They would have no choice but to close the business or, more likely, emigrate and in some cases take the business with them. The pandemic has shown that businesses can be managed from anywhere; they simply don’t need to stay in the UK anymore. A wealth tax would reduce tax revenues even further and throttle growth potential. The UK urgently needs deregulation and lower taxes to stimulate growth again. Putting millions of people on permanent welfare while the hardworking ones have no choice but to leave is a recipe for stagnation and a debt crisis down the road. Unfortunately, pro-growth policies that drive prosperity are not compatible with left-wing ideology. There won’t be any change before the next general election. Will Reform be able to turn Britain around?

I'll ask this question again :-- Why does the British tax payer have to pay for the four burnt out ambulances? They have to be insured by law so why isn't the insurance company coughing up?

@BrendaBlethynUK @AnnCleeves As a film actress she was twice nominated for an Oscar. Secrets & Lies (1996) and Little Voice (1998). Of course she is good. It would be good to see her appointed as a Dame.

Estate agent just asked me if I had the last TEN years of service charges for my flat. The management pack contains the last three years. Maybe it's me, but isn't that like asking: how much was petrol/butter/ insurance 10 years ago? What is the point? It was TEN years ago!

@landlord_secret I am sending by email AND by post. Some Councils hate private landlords. If I have to go to Court to get possession in say two years the FIRST question will be when was this info sheet received. Any doubt at all and I reckon the Court application will be struck out.

@hbinfopeter Guild of landlords have said: Existing written tenancies must receive the information sheet within one month, beginning on 1 May, and we recommend serving it only between 1 and 31 May 2026.

@landlord_secret the information sheet is out today..the penalty for not sending on time to the tenant and in the right format is amazing, I presume if you have done so the landlord cannot evict even if there are rent arrears?

@landlord_secret My thinking is there are bank holidays during May and people go away. If for some reason the tenant does not get this form, how strict will the Council be in fining the landlord? The penalty for not giving the Information Sheet to tenants is a civil penalty of up to £7,000.

FTSE100 closed at 9930. A big fall and breaking back below the 10,000 level. My guess is that the major instits are very nervy about investing in the UK with its high tax and high debt and low growth economy. However much tax is collected the government borrows more,

Britain borrowed £14.3 billion in one month. Let that sink in. Taxes higher than ever. Cost of living is increasing. And it's only getting worse. Why? Because the state keeps growing. Spending keeps rising. Debt interest is exploding. So what happens next? More borrowing. More pressure. More pain for everyone else. Businesses are already struggling. Costs are up. Growth is flat. Investment is drying up. And instead of fixing it… They keep doubling down. You can’t build a strong economy on debt and denial. You can’t tax your way out of a spending problem. This is how economies collapse. Slowly at first. Then all at once. And unless something changes, Britain is heading in one direction. Down.

@landlord_secret No this is the final version. I have sent it to my tenants today with a request that they confirm receipt and have read it. I will send a paper copy by post if they want. Saved as a PDF version as required. I may well send a paper copy by post in May too.

Hargreaves Lansdown being down and unable to operate on a Friday morning during market hours is an absolute disgrace. The so called “scheduled maintenance” should surely take place on a weekend when markets are closed. Unless there’s something you’re not telling us… @HLInvest
