@MattZeitlin The BBC calculated what the murder rate was on one of the more ludicrous detective shows and it's hilariously high for rural England and yet still well below the US homicide rate

@WalkerMarcus Can you imagine Britain requesting exemptions from the free movement provisions of a pan European political union which it belonged to?
English

@KooHo_jin I can't wait until this filters through to British growth posters about how $70k is poor in America

I used this to do it for MPs a couple years ago (I'm sure the methodology has advanced since) but it seemed to perform way worse than the authors' results for American legislators (and the word vector projections seemed much less related to ideology)

@hbjroberts @jwhandley17 my primary goal is to see if constituency characteristics affect the ideal points of MPs (particularly interested if MPs in marginal seats are closer to the points of their primary competitor) and then maybe see how party medians affect frontbench member ideal points
English

@jwhandley17 @KooHo_jin I don't know how you'd systemize it but I feel like you could do a compelling paper about how the extent to which speeches reveal ideal points tells you about party discipline etc

I would take this deal in a heartbeat
English

@ROX_Hojin Yes and even when you use the continuous measure itself in a regression it's nonsense to interpret. "$1000 increase in GDP per capita is associated with a 0.2 point increase in democracy" - statements spoken by the utterly deranged
