To see tragic natures sink and to be able to laugh at them, despite the profound understanding, the emotion and the sympathy which one feeIs—that is divine.

No idea why there's such a fetishism for the 1922 text. This is no longer a problem: jjda.ie
The Book Land@the_book_land
This is the best edition of Ulysses that I know of. It contains: - the 1922 text, annotated; - an essay before each chapter; - a preface + an introduction by Catherine Flynn; - Joyce's schemata; - maps and illustrations; - a chronology of Joyce's life; - an extensive bibliography; - etc.

@entropywhore We're going to crack open your heart and drown the world in your love.
English

@heartfollower27 I'm never going to allow that to happen because it would probably destroy the entire world and I don't actually believe in destroying everything despite my vehement and seemingly senseless cruelty which might suggest that but it's only a surface image or doubled skin,
English

@entropywhore If you create a vacuum in your heart you can escape God's breathing and finally learn to love.

@ChudNarodnik It's very sloppy with technical terms especially, often translating the same word in several ways or in really misleading ways. Worst offender is translating what is typically "being" as "reality". Your professor recommended it because it's the easiest to find.

@changed_radiant This translation was recced by Dr. Sledge is there a reason why it’s bad?
