After hearing her speak, I no longer think that. She is totally insincere. I can deal with hard ideologues- they believe they are telling the truth; they are genuine, @HelenWebberley is different. One audience member, a trans-identified male and former patient of hers, stood to speak during points of information. His account of how he had been treated was deeply disturbing. A surprising number of youth with gender identity issues also have issues with footwear. Examples: -One young person who needs custom orthotics for a medical issue persistently avoids wearing them, exacerbating the issue. -Another walks to work in the snow in canvas shoes with holes in them. -A female who wants to be seen as male insists on wearing heavy men's boots too large for her, causing discomfort. -Multiple parents report having difficulty persuading their kids to allow them to upgrade their footwear even when their shoes have been plainly destroyed. To me, this points to the mind-body disconnect so prevalent in "gender dysphoric" youth and exacerbated by their ideology and medical choices. The denial of material constraints. The dissociation from physical sensations. The unwillingness to root or ground oneself in nature. The tendency to escape into fantasy rather than root into reality. The feet have a lot of nerve endings, and are the lowest point in our body, the one most directly connected to the earth, the foundation on which everything else rests. In traditional approaches to medicine, such as Chinese and Ayurvedic, the feet symbolize the rest of the body, with acupressure points connecting to every other part. What do you think is the symbolic significance of this trend? Observed based on my work coaching 15-20 parents of ROGD youth each week for the past several years.
