Let me help you understand it in easy way. Suppose there are 3 constituencies only, where BJP, Cong and RJD are contesting. All 3 have a total of 100 numbers of voters each. In the 1st Constituency, BJP got 36 votes, Congress 32, RJD 32. In the 2nd, BJP got 34 votes, Congress and RJD got 33 each. In the 3rd BJP got 27, while Congress 33, RJD 40. So BJP won the election by winning 2 out of 3 constituencies. But by vote share, RJD got 105 or 35% vote, Congress got 98 or 32.7% and BJP got 97 or 32.3% votes. This is thanks to the First-past-the-post system. FYI, in the last West Bengal State Election, TMC got 213 seats, while BJP got 77. But if you see Vote Share, TMC had got 48.5% votes, while BJP had got 38.5% votes.
