I wish restaurants offered "girl dinner" type deals where it's just like 1 of every appetizer, a piece of garlic bread, and a side salad. This is all a girl want 90% of the time. I would pay good $$ for this! Bonus points for a pickle on the side!
@PeterTarka hard agree. I was at a workshop recently with some big AI creators and the way they work just doesn't agree with me. I find enjoyment in the exploration and executing the work. There's so much noise around this topic, I'm trying to detach from it so I can focus
The hardest thing to find right now?
Balance.
Every platform is flooded with self-proclaimed AI experts trying to sell their idea of the future, which in most cases is just doing more work for less.
Let people do what they want- I can assure you that every serious designer I know will learn most AI tools in under a day if needed.
But we do what we do because we enjoy it and actually like the process- we don’t need automation for every single task.
Not everything that can be automated should be. Some of us still measure the work by what it felt like to make it.
My wife made my kid dinner for April Fools day: a grilled cheese.
Only, it was pound cake with vanilla frosting. He was presently surprised. It even fooled me.
What do you think? Does it look like a real grilled cheese?
@PeterTarka thanks for sharing this. I think people dream of the self employed life but don't realize how difficult and unstable it can be. I try to keep my overhead expenses like rent as low as possible because sometimes many projects fall through or clients don't pay for months
2023 was the worst year of my career. I was earning more when I was 19-20 years old.
Not a single project for 9 months. I posted about it at the time- a lot of people reached out. Some wanted to work together. Most of those conversations disappeared as quickly as they started.
Applied for many Art/Creative Direction full time roles- not a single call back.
I was lucky that I’d earned solidly in the years before, so I could push through it. Burned through a lot of savings and seriously considered leaving London for good.
On X you mostly see people flexing with money and putting price tags on their designs.
Reality is different and a lot less colourful most of the time.
