@dittycheria What’s most interesting to me about this AI thing and tech more broadly is that Jevon’s paradox doesn’t apply exclusively to software engineers.

AI won’t eliminate sw engineering jobs just as ATMs didn’t kill jobs in bank branches. ATMs automated routine tasks like cash withdrawals & deposits, while tellers shifted to higher value work such as loans, investments & personalized advice. Total teller jobs actually grew. AI will automate parts of sw dev tasks but huge demand for new sw & novel use cases will likely expand need for sw engineers.

@marcrandolph Exactly. Raw hours do make the difference and increase the chances of success by double, but say that is from 1% to 2%. You also need to prioritize your family and health. This 9-9-6 trend is a cultural flaw

En Bogotá y Medellín la relación entre estrato y voto por izquierda o derecha es brutal. No sé qué tan fuerte sea la clásica relación ingreso-afiliación política en el resto del país, pero en las dos principales ciudades de Colombia es cristalina.

software engineering has changed, a lot of people are still trying to resist to the idea, it will take enterprise still years to catch up but the field has changed and a lot of knowledge that software engineers had, is useless - however not all of it, and the bit that’s not outdated, those skills are the most useful in this new AI era it will take a lot of time for people to adjust, especially for the veterans that do not want to accept the new times, perhaps a change of roles in those cases are good, or even fields, but people who know and care about software engineering will be in high demand in the upcoming years - you just no longer have to be a code monkey i think we just need to recognize that a lot of code monkey jobs are just over, they will not exist going forward
