Huge thanks to the @NHSEngland @UniKent team for standing up our vaccination centre in Canterbury so quickly and with such professionalism in challenging circumstances. They deserve real credit. Over 600 students through yesterday afternoon and more coming through now.

@mimizima_ im in my 30s, and just got fluent in a language i started learning 8 months ago. my memory is extremely tight. and so is the n95 around my face when i go to indoor public spaces. the 30s are not supposed to be the age of mental decline.

I hate when I see tweets on here like “no one told me that you hit 30 and start forgetting everything” that’s the long covid beating your ass babe. It’s not normal.

for covid conscious folks who get demoralized, thinking there’s no point to posting about covid for those who aren’t yet informed: in 2023, i was persuaded by the density of high-quality research y’all post here. and i’ve done my best to pay it forward. what you say matters.😷

Meningitis outbreaks don’t happen in a vacuum.
They spread through the same close-contact, shared-air conditions that made COVID explode. When you normalize transmission, you don’t just get one disease — you get all of them.

@luckytran @kananaskinyeti *insert study here that says that if only 70% of people used the masks 30% more it would be more effective than if 30% use it 100% of the time. *

It's an anti-masker tactic to claim that if you don't wear a mask 100% of the time, it isn't worth it. Untrue. Every single time you wear a mask, you reduce the chances for viruses to spread. Wearing a mask always improves public health, even if you only do it occasionally.
Vivian@suchnerve

“I don’t want to wear a mask all the time” Alright. Would you please wear it sometimes? Sometimes > never. Like just keep one in your bag, and put it on when you’re in an extra crowded place maybe?

I hate to break it to you but Michelangelo's family were bankers which is why he was rich enough to never work. The real reason we don't have a Michelangelo is because the billionaires now in charge don't value art only profit. Which is why all the buildings are terrible too.
@BALUCIAGA

we don’t have a ‘michelangelo’ of this generation bc capitalism doesn’t let people disappear and lock themselves in a room for twenty years to create something beautiful. that level of greatness comes from isolation, time and obsession and none of that is being protected anymore.

I'm absolutely incandescently furious tonight. I predicted back in August that we would have a problem with meningitis here this winter. Public health did nothing to prepare for it. There's now a shortage of vaccines. I try so hard, but I'm just a bird. Who listens to a bird?

Meningitis is airborne and the vaccine is currently £200 so why not advise people to wear FFP2 respirators since this is clearly going to be a drawn out public health crisis?

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has warned that meningitis B, also known as MenB, can be spread by “prolonged kissing or sharing vapes and drinks”. A vaccine will be offered to some students at the University of Kent in a "targeted" programme to tackle the deadly outbreak.

everyone tweeting they’re having march 2020 flashbacks seeing the news about the meningitis outbreak… how do we break it to them? there’s an outbreak in the first place because covid is still here and depletes the immune system of its cells making everyone immunocompromised !

We normalized going out when sick & stigmatized disease prevention tools like masks. If we’d upgraded indoor air quality, taught public health skills and enshrined paid sick leave since 2020 these outbreaks wouldn’t happen- nor would the worse ones to come. Vax, mask, care

Hi Chris, I’d like to introduce you a segment of the population who DON’T have a robust immune system because of cancer treatments or treatments for autoimmune illnesses. They are all around you.
