Hearing normies talk about nutrition stuff really is a painful experience for me. I was listening to this thing where this person was saying “we don’t know why increased fat intake is associated with increased cancer risk” and I’m practically yelling at the computer “It’s BECAUSE of the randle cycle and excess fat consumption competing and compromising glucose metabolism in the cell, eventually causing the warburg effect which is textbook cancer cell metabolism!!!”

This was maybe my answer to Burroughs, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. A Princess of Mars had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the oxygen would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Burroughs can say that John Carter became king and got yeeted off Mars at the last minute, and he was wise and good. But Burroughs doesn’t ask the question: What was John’s slave girl policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of black pirates from the moon? And what about all these green men? By the end of the war, the gods of Mars are gone but all of the greenskin mf’ers aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did John pursue a bro above hoes policy? Real-life kings had real-life problems to deal with. Just being a good guy was not the answer. You had to make hard, hard decisions. Sometimes what seemed to be a good decision turned around and bit you in the ass; it was the law of unintended consequences. I’ve tried to get at some of these in my books. My people who are trying to rule don’t have an easy time of it. Just having good intentions doesn’t make you a propa Martian king."
