That is an excellent question! Thankfully, some of the more recent radioligand trials have incorporated SSTR PET imaging but so far, only in advanced disease as far as I know. @helops79 - does the adjuvant CAPTEM pNETs trial incorporate PET imaging for surveillance? Sadly, I do not expect that there will ever be a prospective surveillance study following resection in patients with NETs. It would be exceptionally expensive to do and take a long time.

Somatostatin receptor PET (Ga-68 or Cu-64 DOTATATE PET) is often used for surveillance but the data supporting that practice are limited. This small study adds to that limited literature suggesting that the yield of surveillance SSTR PET is low. My take: SSTR PET is not recommended in the postoperative setting unless something suspicious is seen on cross-sectional imaging and/or there are concerning new or persistent symptoms. And yes, circulating markers are useless in that setting too... mdpi.com/2077-0383/14/2…
