It's useful to know which sound/spellings are important enough to teach and which can be learned on an as needed basis. These percentages 👇come from Hanna et al. (1996) research in which the sound/spelling appeared in the 17,000 most frequently used single & multisyllabic words.

@louise_bee @Paul_Kasner @dbseymour Totally agree, too complex... comparisons between diverse learning contexts simply does not work.

We should pay good teachers more than we pay bad teachers. That’s exactly how other workers are paid. This would raise the status of the profession, attract the brightest university graduates, and keep the best teachers in the classroom.

We are told: “Don’t worry about the outcomes, focus only on the process.” That sounds nice in a tweet, but it’s not real life. It’s about finding the middle, where we: Care about the outcome, are willing to battle for it, AND hungry to learn - at the same time.
