🪡 thread/ What ‘Daily Review’ looks like in my grade 3 classroom. Daily Review (DR), has hands down been the most valuable addition to my teaching. Most people are aware of the science and why it’s important, so I thought I’d discuss what it actually looks like.

@mpershan I find students can’t calculate elapsed time without understanding analog time, as otherwise they need to calculate in 60s. An important maths and life skill.

Some may say, no. It's an important life skill, because analog clocks are still around. I guess, but it's not like you couldn't replace them all with digital clocks. It's that people like these things and we're going to keep having them around. Clocks kick ass.

Part of my job with 3rd Graders is to teach clocks and time-telling. There's a decent argument that tech has made this skill obsolete. Who cares? It's great math.

New from me: for the millions of students struggling with math, could a lot of it boil down to a lack of practice in foundational skills? Should More Time Be Spent Learning Math Facts? | Edutopia edutopia.org/article/how-de…

Spending today’s staff day planning Maths using the new NSW syllabus. How’s this for an amazing incentive, created by the school leaders for their staff. #AISNSW #primarymaths
