@MrJayLC @peach2k2 smart pointers are safe because you can't access the raw pointers inside them. their implementation is unsafe, but the resulting code is safe. they do a malloc() during creation and a free() when they get out of scope. that is safe.

That can be a bit iffy :^) References and smart pointers are no more or less safe, they just restrict access to operations or tracks ownership (something you can manually do). (a lot of people fail to understand this) explicit unsafety is objectively better than implicit unsafety

@MrJayLC @peach2k2 in rust, char is a 4-byte unicode scalar value, which is any value in the range 0 to 0x10FFF, except for those between 0xD800 and 0xDFFF. therefore, casting a u32 to a char is unsafe because it may break this invariant. for the same reasons, you can't cast a u8 to a bool.

@peach2k2 I'm not sure about rust spec (because it doesn't exist haHA!) but in theory, a u32 cast to char should always be safe unless char is greater than 32-bits (which it can be by C spec). Otherwise any cast is just clamp. u32 * to char * should always be safe until read (Side-eff)

This is why I love C#. It's not because of the language per se, but the tooling around it. I realized naming a class Action would be annoying with the name conflict with System.Action, and in <4 seconds I renamed the class, derived classes, variables, fields, filenames, and more

@giovannibassi O que deixou o Windows decente foi colocarem linux no Windows. Sem WSL não presta.

Opinião impopular (mas cada dia menos): O Windows hoje é um bom SO pra programar. Bom terminal, acesso a todas as ferramentas do ambiente Linux com o WSL, gestor de pacotes e boas IDEs e editores de texto. E vários daqueles probleminhas chatos do passado ou sumiram ou atenuaram.

People want smaller, more impactful changes, not premade one-off experiences (camels, sniffer, archeology...). Think pistons, for example.

@Comicnight_ these are still present in "extreme hills" which i wouldnt mind if minecraft wasnt so weirdly dodgy about allowing you to choose that in the first place

I cannot emphasize enough how Minecraft Beta 1.8 destroyed the game, and it has never recovered since. Floating islands? gone. Wildly varying scalable mountains no matter where you go? gone. Sand and gravel beaches? Nerfed and removed. Spawn on beach? Nope. Grind-fest? Yup!
