“It’s a f****** disgrace!”
On this day in 2009, Didier Drogba let the television cameras know exactly how he felt after Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona.
After a goalless draw in the semi-final first leg at Camp Nou, Michael Essien put Guus Hiddink’s side in front early - and Chelsea felt they should have had several more opportunities to extend their lead from the penalty spot.
However, referee Tom Henning Ovrebo was emphatic in his denial on each occasion - and Chelsea had their place in the final snatched away in stoppage time.
Andres Iniesta’s strike sent Barcelona through on away goals, leading to Drogba’s infamous outburst.

Not the night we believed in yesterday. These games come down to moments and unfortunately over the two legs we didn’t take enough of ours. Proud to be part of this team and club, the disappointment will be with us for a while but we have to stay focused on finishing the season strong with a final still to play. Thanks for the support as always and can’t wait to see the fans in Berlin!

🚨⚠️ Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen on referee João Pinheiro: “It's astonishing, to say the least, that a referee with only 15 Champions League appearances is allowed to officiate such a game”.
“That might explain some of the calls he made today…”, told @kerry_hau.
