An eclectic mix of Primary teaching (esp Year 6 and English) reading, youth sector and choral music with a large sprinkle of socialism. All views my own.

Starting to think after how unnecessarily difficult today’s reading #sats2023 paper was that the Tories/DFE actively want the children to perform badly, so they can blame ‘striking teachers’ when results come out. It’s hard not to be cynical about the Tories and education

🚨BREAKING: In an unprecedented move, all four education unions @NEUnion, @ASCL_UK, @NASUWT and @NAHTnews have announced they will coordinate future industrial action in their dispute with the Government. It means any future teachers' strike will be far more disruptive.

Ofsted, like the Tories on strike action in education and health, hope to face this down by doing nothing. But it's too late for that. Far, far too late. The hard faced indifference to the disintegration of public services & their staff is a scandal greater than COVID corruption.
Vic Goddard@vicgoddard

“Chief inspector Amanda Spielman has met senior head teacher representatives several times in recent weeks, and she has clearly indicated Ofsted's willingness to continue having constructive discussions about these issues," they said.” When? bbc.com/news/uk-englan…

So many things wrong - Ofsted creates a vicious cycle-DfE testing narrows the curriculum, Ofsted narrows what leaders prioritise in schools. It creates a system where everyone is put under constant pressure. Our children & staff must come first. At the moment, they do not.

If you are are a teacher saying you can’t afford to strike, I agree. I also know my dad had 3 kids (me one of them) and went out to strike so you could have your PPA. Imagine not having PPA. He lost wages for that. And you now Benefit as a teacher.

Labour all over the place on this&that's simply cos they're not guided by clear morals or principles, only triangulation for power. Starmer using anti-immigrant language not dissimilar to Tories. Cooper&Thornberry condemning Lineker. They've already assaulted member's free speech.
Beth Rigby@BethRigby

Labour backs Lineker: “BBC’s cowardly decision to take Lineker off air is an assault on free speech in face of political pressure “Tory politicians lobbying to get people sacked for disagreeing w govt policies should be laughed at, not pandered to. BBC should rethink decision”
