I was in a queue at a POS stand in Lagos when a little boy, maybe 10 years old, walked up. He handed the agent ₦500 and said, “Aunty, help me send it to my mummy.” The agent asked, “Where is your mummy dey?” He replied, “Hospital.” Everyone went quiet. She asked again, “Why did you not go with her?” The boy looked down and said, “The doctor said they won’t touch her until we bring money.” Nobody spoke for a few seconds. Then the woman behind me stepped forward and said, “How much do they need?” Before you knew it, strangers started contributing. That day, I realised something: In Nigeria, people are struggling, but they still show up for one another.

I can position myself well and score consistently. Many of those who defended me over a week ago know this because they’ve seen me play recently. None of the naysayers have watched me play in the past year, yet they dismiss me as all talk. I regularly post my playing schedule here so people can come and see for themselves, but some still use my performance in a single 40-minute-a-side tournament from two years ago — where I had just one start in four games — as their only yardstick. Within the last year, I trialed with a professional team in our top flight. Playing with teammates I’d never featured alongside and in a completely new system, I scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists in 5 assessment matches (three of them as a starter - didn't play any full game). This is verifiable. All I need is time to adapt to any system. In fact, if my new teammates quickly understand the type of player I am, I will acclimatize even faster. You just have to trust me to make runs and be in the right places. Yes, I will miss chances and mistime some passes and runs. But as long as I’m given game time and left on the pitch, I will deliver goals and assists. That is my unique skillset. Today, I didn’t dribble past a single opponent throughout the 60 minutes I played, yet I found myself one-on-one with the goalkeeper three times — scoring twice and forcing a save on the third. There’s a clear reason for that. Football is tough, and many people (perhaps including yourself) exaggerate their abilities or claim to be what they are not. However, I don’t fall into that category — I don’t suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect. Others may hype me out of love or excitement, but I won’t. I am exactly what I claim to be. If you have a problem with any perceived “exaggeration,” address it with the person you heard it from — or examine your own bias. It is definitely not coming from me. It’s either genuine excitement from people who have watched me play, or your preconceptions are clouding your understanding of my posts. I WILL NEVER CLAIM TO BE WHAT I AM NOT. #H9 🦂
