If this war were because of Israel or the nuclear dossier, I'd be the first to tell you. Both topics are my forte. I've covered the JCPOA on the ground for 5 years, and reported more critically on Israel than most. But it's about gas & oil. Iran is one front in a larger US campaign targeting Venezuela, China, Russia. Washington are physically seizing control of the planet's energy and trade routes to save the Dollar. US foreign policy has never been more transparent than it is right now.
Richard Medhurst@richimedhurst

The US are executing a global armed robbery of the world’s energy supply. I’ve adapted my documentary, "Birth of the Petrogas-Dollar and the Pirate State," into a forensic written investigation. This is the most detailed audit you will find anywhere on current US geostrategy. Chevron's replacement for Nord Stream, the sabotage of South Pars, and the blockade of the Arctic before the ice has even melted—it’s all in here. open.substack.com/pub/richardmed…

Elastic Borders and Fortress Capitalism: How U.S. Militarization Is Redefining the Americas by Teri Mattson countercurrents.org/2026/04/elasti… Elastic borders are reshaping how the United States projects power across the Americas, extending enforcement far beyond its physical boundaries. Drawing on the concept of a multilayered border system, this analysis traces the links between militarization, migration control, and geopolitical strategy. It examines how domestic policing, foreign security partnerships, and surveillance technologies converge into a broader architecture of control. The article also situates these developments within rising inequality, climate displacement, and resource competition, highlighting the emergence of what some describe as “fortress capitalism.” The result is a system that normalizes militarized governance while deepening regional and global asymmetries.

Here is the complete architecture of how you keep a poor country poor while convincing its educated class that this is their own fault: Step one: During colonialism, extract capital, destroy domestic industry, structure the economy around export of raw materials. Step two: Grant formal independence while maintaining the economic structure, the debt obligations, the currency arrangements, and the trade relationships established under colonialism. Step three: When the economy underperforms, as it must, being structurally designed for extraction, not development, offer loans conditional on policies that deepen the existing structure. Step four: Train the country's economists in Western universities where the theories taught do not acknowledge steps one through three as economically relevant. Step five: Staff international institutions and domestic finance ministries with these economists. Step six: When the policies fail, attribute failure to cultural factors, corruption, and weak institutions. Step seven: Publish a report with recommendations. Step eight: Return to step three. The machine runs on its own now. The colonial administrator retired. The indebted finance minister presenting his structural adjustment plan to the IMF board doesn't think of himself as administering colonialism. He has a PhD from LSE. He genuinely believes the model. This is not a conspiracy. It is an education system.

Prof. Michael Hudson: The #1 US export for 5 months straight is gold. Not AI, not aircraft. Gold to Switzerland, Hong Kong, China. In 1971 Nixon shut the gold window to stop it. Now America can't -- it IS the one selling. The empire is liquidating itself. America's broke.

🇵🇪 Peru’s electoral chief resigns under pressure from the right as leftist candidate fights for runoff spot Piero Corvetto, head of Peru’s National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), resigned Tuesday amid what some legislators and analysts say was a coordinated campaign by right-wing political forces to exploit the election’s logistical failures, force him out, and lay the groundwork for the annulment of the results in certain districts. Congresswoman Ruth Luque said Corvetto’s tenure had been “taken advantage of by sectors of the fraudulent and authoritarian right to question results and overwhelm ONPE by exaggerating the facts.” Some analysts have gone further, suggesting there was a prior interest in removing Corvetto and replacing him with a figure more aligned with what critics have dubbed the “mafia pact”, a reference to the bloc of parties with greater influence in Peru's unpopular Congress, which wields significant power inside Peru's political system. Four-time presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori, representing the right-wing Popular Force party, has secured her runoff spot. Leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez and conservative Rafael López Aliaga are locked in an extremely tight race for second place, with the slow count still unresolved. Political elites in Lima, a conservative stronghold inside the country, are seeking to avoid a Fujimori-Sánchez runoff, a repeat of sorts of the 2021 vote with Fujimori facing off against the eventual winner, Pedro Castillo, a leftist who was eventually ousted from office by Congress before the end of his term.

The United States is so toxic on the world stage right now that it can’t fill hotels or sell World Cup tickets. Let that land. FIFA projected $30.5 billion in economic impact from millions of international visitors. That demand never showed up. Hotels in Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia and San Francisco have slashed match-day rates by a third from their peak. FIFA has cancelled tens of thousands of reserved rooms across all 16 host cities. Some hotels report cancellation rates above 95%. The reasons aren’t hard to find. Anti-American sentiment. Fear of border crossings. The Iran war driving up oil prices and airfares. And tickets priced into the stratosphere, with finals seats hitting $10,990 a pop. Industry executives are now openly blaming the Trump administration for the shortfall. Tourism economists say the Iran war made an already bad sentiment problem worse. Empty stadiums are now a real possibility. It happened at the Club World Cup last summer. It could happen again, on American soil, at the biggest sporting event on the planet. The White House says this will be “the greatest World Cup ever.” The market disagrees. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

It’s not even a trade war. It’s a unilateral trade attack, launched by the Ecuadorian government at the behest of its Miami puppet masters, to interfere in Colombia’s elections. But yes, it has created a big border crime corridor and imposed immense hardship on ordinary people
