Here’s CCTV footage capturing the exact moment Air Canada Express Flight AC8646, a Bombardier CRJ-900, collided with a Port Authority fire truck at LaGuardia Airport last night.

A flight attendant was found by Port Authority Police outside the Air Canada aircraft after it collided with the truck, still strapped into her jumpseat, two sources have said. According to preliminary information, it appeared that the engines were off when responders arrived. As a result, responders were able to open the rear exit and escort passengers to safety. The plane is said to have struck the middle of the truck — causing the officers seated up front to be thrown from the vehicle — but enabling them to survive. The sergeant and a police officer who were on the truck are in a stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

NEW: "I messed up," a LaGuardia controller seems to say in LiveATC audio about 18 minutes after the Air Canada crash. A pilot replies: "nah man, you did the best you could."

The National Transportation Safety Board is on site. The airport will remain closed until at least 2:00pm Monday 3/23/26 to allow for a thorough investigation.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, a Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada was involved in an incident on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport in which the aircraft struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle that was responding to a separate incident. Emergency response protocols were immediately activated. The Port Authority Police Department is on scene along with the agency’s Chairman and Executive Director. The airport is currently closed to facilitate the response and allow for a thorough investigation. This is a developing situation based on preliminary information. The Port Authority Police Department is working closely with our airline partners as well as federal authorities and will provide additional updates as more details become available.

Here is his account: “I was on this flight and we are still on the tarmac getting checked out. I wanted to share these images in case it's helpful to anyone who is investigating the crash or needs more information. I'm okay (physically) but I'm horribly sick to my stomach for the lives lost.
