YORUBA recognized in Americas as the largest ethnic group in Africa.
A lot of people most especially Yoruba people in West Africa and Nigeria are confused on how to categorize the Yoruba people. Many unfortunately used the term tribe to identify the Yoruba people which is wrong because the term tribe was a derogatory colonial construct which was used by the Europeans to downgrade indigenous African and Nigerian civilizations like the Yoruba people who were martial in nature, aesthetic in art and were empire building people.
A lot of Yoruba people equate the Yoruba identity with blackness and unfortunately due to lack of travel experience and global exposure, we don't know yet that the Yoruba identity has evolved beyond blackness in several places in the world. There are millions of Caucasian looking people in South and central American continent who now identify as Yoruba in those places.
The question is how did they become Yoruba? After the first Brazilian census in 1872, the majority of Brazil were enslaved African people who were largely Yoruba in origin and identity. In order to stop Brazil from becoming an African/Yoruba country, the Brazilian government had to start a social project like Blanqueamiento in Spanish, or branqueamento in Portuguese(both meaning whitening). Branqueamento is a social, political, and economic practice used in many post-colonial countries in the Americas and Oceania to "improve the race" (mejorar la raza)towards a supposed ideal of whiteness. A lot of Yoruba people most especially women were forcibly intermarried by white people and laws were made to prevent the products of mixed races from marrying black people which ensured that within 100 years, white people became the majority again in Brazil via brute force and crude social policies. That was how a lot of white looking people in Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay etc. with Yoruba ancestry were born. Due to the reawakening of Yoruba consciousness, a lot of this White looking people with Yoruba ancestry started to identify as Yoruba which ethnically and religiously. This social reawakening took place without the help of the Yoruba people of West Africa.
What am I trying to say? As of today in 2024, we now have black Yorubas, white Yorubas and mulatto Yorubas in terms of the colour of the skin.

BREAKING:
Power-drunk Nigerian Air Force Personnel Invade Ikeja Electric HQ Over N4bn Debt Disconnection, Brutalize Workers
"I broke my leg, they stole phones, 16 vehicles" — IE worker recounts horror in tears
Personnel of the @NigAirForce, reportedly from the Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja, Lagos State, stormed the headquarters of @IkejaElectric in a violent invasion after the company disconnected power supply due to an alleged N4bn accumulated debt.
Speaking with DEJI LAMBO, the Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, @KingsleyOkotie1 , described the attack as "a traumatic experience and the height of impunity."
“They invaded our premises, beat us up, stole, destroyed, molested, and assaulted us. They held us hostage for hours. I broke my leg in the stampede. This is shameful,” Okotie said.
According to him, @IkejaElectric had repeatedly written to the Air Force regarding the unpaid debt before disconnecting the barracks. Instead of seeking dialogue, the military personnel allegedly responded with violence.
“We have written severally, and they were disconnected. Rather than resolving it through proper dialogue, they resorted to threats and this morning, they carried out those threats,” Okotie added.
Noting that they were still taking stocks of the injured workers, Okotie said 16 company vehicles were reportedly seized at gunpoint, with drivers forced to drive them out of the Ikeja Electric's office under duress.
"I am Kingsley Okotie, the Head of Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric. This is shameful. They (@NigAirForce) invaded our premises because they are out of supply because they are owing N4bn in accumulated debts for 10 years and they are not paying and the records are there," Okoties said.
The spokesperson for the @NigAirForce, Olusola Akinboyewa, when contacted on Thursday, did not take his calls for a reaction on the development.
