If I was a VC investing in Defense Tech, the first question I would ask the founder is: Who have you placed on your team who understands operational relevance? Second question: What do you see as the acquisition pathway? If they look dumbfounded it’s a massive red flag.

You're doubting yourself too much. The numbers part is the least differentiating part, imo. Relationships, discerning the teams ability and likelihood of success, deep expertise in the sector you're investing in and ability to dig in with the portfolio companies to push them forward when they inevitably get stuck, seem like the most important aspects of the role. All of which you have, and then some! You can learn the numbers part pretty quickly, or hire an Analyst/Associate to help with the numbers side of it.

@hgandreasen That would be an exceptional challenge to take on I think. It lives in the back of my mind. Would need a financially sound partner. I can do numbers, to an extent.
