I well understand how upsetting and awful this case is . I am arguing for compassion , for not spending 50k a year locking this woman up and not to use this rare tragic case to make abortion more difficult

Let’s be clear: while the Government’s plans will harm refugees and migrants the most, this is an attack on all of us and the values we hold dear. What we need is greater human rights protections – not fewer.

We all deserve the chance to live safe, dignified and fulfilling lives. But this desperately cruel Bill from the government flies in the face of international human rights principles and will tear families and communities apart. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/m…

Bristol Refugee Rights are still trying to process the implications of this enormous upheaval to asylum processes. We have serious concerns about this change.

We can only hope that the Home Office has decided to avoid the long, painful waiting process and simply recognise people who are obviously Refugees as Refugees. Anything else will surely only increase the backlogs and delays in the system.

20 days is far too short. Many people receiving this form will not have access to a lawyer, not speak English, perhaps not read or write at all. The room for error is huge. All these countries have <90% success rate in asylum applications.
