@InsideOut2912 All the people saying it’s the paved side that they descend in the Ronde are mistaken. That’s the Nieuwe Kwaremont (also known as the N36). This one approaches Kwaremont village from almost the base of the Paterberg. It’s called Keuzelingsstraat.

@jonas_creteur The Latin derivation is actually from “focus” the word for the hearth where bread was baked.

A littble bit etymology: the name Pogačar comes from the word 'pogača', a bread made from a special type of dough, enriched with nuts, cheese, tarragon. Pogacar = 'He who bakes the pogaça bread' The word is derived from Latin focacea, focacia, which means 'cooked bread' and is the root for the Italian word 'focaccia' in the sense that we know it. His name is, quite literally, Tadej Focaccia

@mou55981652 Also they played at the same time, in the same conditions, with the same equipment available, so a direct comparison is meaningful. Even then, Federer is still the 🐐 because Djoko only had to beat Thiem and co, and Rafa was only 🐐on clay

In tennis, they were 3 best ever with over 20 grand slam titles, but none of 3 have over 25 slams. In cycling, you don't have that right now because there is a big 3 where one wins 90% and other two pick up crumbs and they are proven champions but that's exactly why Pogi is 🐐🐐🐐

How can watching best sportsman of all time perform be boring? If he doesn't win dominantly and frequently with solo "Pogi show" then he wouldn't be GOAT sportsman. There are no 🐐 in tennis because there have been 3 great, big champions but they were equal. Pog is special🫅

The latest episode of Did Not Finish is now available. A cycling podcast with seriousness and nonsenseness in exactly the right doses. Evenepoel will be trying to win the Tour de France on a new team. Has any rider ever done this? Find out here!! open.spotify.com/episode/1yofNr…

@BenjiNaesen Good summary Benji! I thought season 2 > season 1, not least because of Pogi’s participation. Two things annoyed me though. The 1st was once again not even the slightest hint that there’s a race for women. And 2nd, calling Urška Pogi’s fiancée without saying she’s a pro herself!

[SPOILER WARNING] #TDFUSpoilers Episode 8️⃣ was a solid season finale, starting with the Plugge vs Madiot "beer" drama, and let's just say, Madiot destroys Plugge in terms of on-screen charisma. I'm certain that Visma-Lease a Bike is more scientific than Groupama-FDJ, but Tour de France: Unchained almost portrays Groupama-FDJ as having no science at all, only being about panache, which is untrue. In my opinion, it's a bit annoying for Tour de Franche: Unchained that the TDF usually ends with a Champs-Elysees sprint instead of a GC stage. I expect the final episode of next year's Tour de France: Unchained to be better with the ITT on Stage 21. That being said, Jordi Meeus causing a major upset on the Champs-Elysees made for an epic post-race reaction. 🤩 "To be honest, I was shit at the Tour de France 2023." - Alaphilippe 😂 "I raced with the best every single day, I was also beaten by the best every single day. *laughs*" - O'Connor 😂 I wish there was a segment at the end announcing the Roglic to BORA transfer, Remco going to the Tour de France, Pogačar declaring a desire for revenge, something to hype the 2024 Tour de France.

@robertomcdonald @vidasobrepave @MontVentoux23 @Benswinenotes It’s who pays for the finish. Serre Chevalier is close to Briançon, a good 30km from the top of the Galibier. The Granon in 2022 was the same - paid for by Serre Chevalier and so called “Col du Granon Serre Chevalier” even though they’re on the opposite sides of the valley

@vidasobrepave @MontVentoux23 @Benswinenotes The Station Serre Chevalier is a few km from Briançon, as you make the long drag up the Lauteret. The name is used to make the distinction from the Galibier ascent from the northern side.

@rich_cahill Logseq. I use it for all notes, random thoughts, tasks, the lot. It’s open source and free and syncs through iCloud pretty well. The possibilities for designing your own workflow and organising stuff are insane.

86,000 CWU members voted for strike action in Royal Mail Group. 356 MPs voted for Sunak to be PM. We aren’t taking lessons from the Tories on democracy. Every single person needs to stand against their attacks on the right to strike.

Many other occasions spring to mind too, but above all of them the Ring he conducted at the Proms. In particular the Siegfried, one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. A towering musician, of this or any other time.

Very sad to read of Barenboim’s withdrawal from performing due to his deteriorating health. Among many memories I remember him signing an autograph using my back to rest the programme on when I was 10. Can’t remember not listening to his music making.

RIP Bernard Haitink. Certainly one of the very greatest musicians of last 70 years. I’m fortunate to have many unforgettable music memories of his work, the very pinnacle being his Ring at the Albert Hall when the ROH was closed. A great man and and even greater musician.
