Known as the “Godmother of HBCUs,” she has led efforts in Congress to protect and expand funding for historically Black colleges and universities while continuing her lifelong commitment to education. A former educator, city council member, and state legislator, Rep. Adams has built her career around what she calls the 4 H’s: healthcare, hunger, housing, and higher education. 🚨 RACE TO WATCH 🚨 Higher Heights PAC is naming the U.S. House of Representatives race in Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District as a 2026 Race to Watch. A Race to Watch highlights contests where two or more Black women are stepping forward to lead. In this race, Donna Miller, a Cook County Commissioner, and Yumeka Brown, a Commissioner on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Board, are both candidates in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House of Representatives on March 17.
