A puppy was allegedly thrown alive into a burning tandoor outside Noorani Dhaba in Bapu Dham Colony (Sector 26, Chandigarh) on May 16 at 1:40 AM, leading to its death. An FIR has been registered at Sector 26 Police Station against unknown persons under Section 11(1)(l) of the PCA Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. How long will the Supreme Court and our lawmakers look away from this escalating crisis of societal violence? When the highest court in the land fails to treat animal cruelty with the emergency it warrants, it signals to psychopaths that they can torture the vulnerable with near-total impunity. We dont just need statements or standard FIRs; we need the judiciary to fast track these cases and recognize that a society indifferent to such depravity is inherently broken. The legislature must overhaul the toothless PCA Act immediately. CCTV footage is currently being examined.
