@philipslattery @IFBMedia He finished 4th because of one cock up. he utterly messed up at home to Israel when we were cruising and almost home and hosed. He panicked when Keane got injured. If he kept his head in that match we top that group

@IFBMedia Brian Kerr was a worse Ireland manager than Staunton. There was plenty of time to claw back the Euro 2004 qualifiers. He also had the golden generation and we proceeded to finish 4th behind Israel for the 2006 WC ... He got off easy because he had mates in the media.

@JohnnyDuerden 16 is not more than enough. It's 1/3 of spots for UEFA. In the last world cup, half of the last 16 were UEFA teams. World cup before 10 of the last 16 were UEFA teams. It's not a fair system

@amberarmy1967 @MiguelDelaney And didn't even have an away match. Win zero from six in qualifiers. Ukraine in a neutral venue, Poland at home then to qualify. Utterly unfair.

@MiguelDelaney That’s what happens when you expand the play offs to 16 teams to include those who did well in the nations league. Makes a farce of the qualifying groups, Sweden didn’t win a single game and have qualified.

Again, it feels ridiculous these qualifiers should involve home advantage. There's way too much at stake, and these final ones were luck of the draw.

@MiguelDelaney Czechia were the 3rd best side from 4 on our side of draw. Home advantage has got it for them. It's just not fair (I know I'd not feel this way if it was us putting the Danes to the sword in Dublin tonight). But seriously it has to change

@noelmickedy @Squizzbfc There would have been no playoff for Ireland were it not for Azaz. Every bit as important as Parrott in Budapest. Yes everyone is frustrated with Manning, but it's his ball to Idah for the equaliser at home to Hungary.

@MiguelDelaney Scrap playoffs. The standard amongst European sides is good enough that 2 from European groups should qualify. 12 groups,24 trams qualify. Let FIFA figure out what to do with it. It's desperately unfair the paths Europeans have to make their way through compared to other confeds.

@Arjankw86 @00sFootb4ll The reversal of that, Ireland were two up on the Dutch in Amsterdam and cruising and we threw away two points.

@00sFootb4ll Among others because of a easy penalty giving in the last minute in Portugal for Pauleta. Figo scores the penalty. Holland was fantastic that match and had a 0-2 lead. 2 - 2 in the end. 2 goals Kluivert. That was the match in my opinion we throw away the qualify of WC 2002

@RMcGreevy1301 Tbf a lot of JC teachers use John Redmond and Edward Carson as their two parliamentary tradition figures. I do and with Redmond that gives me the scope to discuss woodenbridge and our involvement in WW1. Drawback to that is I don't get to do O'Connell and Parnell with them

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCAA) has just produced its draft new curriculum for Leaving Certificate history. You cannot understand how the modern world has evolved without understanding the impact of the First World War, yet this draft curriculum mysteriously starts from 1917 onwards. Any rational analysis of modern world history would have to start at 1914. This is bad enough, but in its Irish section it makes no mention of Irish involvement in the war. The fact that more Irish were involved in the First World War doesn't seem to figure in this draft curriculum at all. I recently read a Junior Certificate book on Irish history which makes no mention at all of Irish involvement in the war. The "national amnesia" of Irish participation in the WW1, as FX Martin famously described it, seems to have vanished everywhere in Irish society except on the school curriculum. It's like the last 50 years of scholarship which firmly places the Irish struggle for freedom in the context of that war has been completely ignored. Who decides this? ncca.ie/media/v31fj1zx…

@FinnOM18 @IrishPropaganda Literally everything we did that was decent in Hungary came through Azaz. Two goals, Kenny's great chance at end, O'Briens great chance in first half, Idahs offside goal. Frustrating but can be a little magician.

Paul Nebel is very interesting Declared for Germany, then said he’d think about it if Ireland ever came knocking, called up by Germany, didn’t play & now is out of form with Mainz struggling in the Bundesliga There’s a proper talent there, ask the question Heimir 🇮🇪🇩🇪

Won some medal with a lower side British team once, never played top tier English football and has no managerial experience or qualifications
