it is an unwritten rule of life that after every prolonged period of hardship and uncertainty, there is going to be a period when you are going to achieve quantum leaps across multiple areas of your life. the only requirement is that you do not give up on yourself

When we came into office, we uncovered a $12 billion budget deficit. Today, I’m proud to say we brought it down to zero. We didn’t close the gap on the backs of working people. We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets and making historic investments in public housing. Call it Pothole Politics. Call it Democratic Socialism. It's government that delivers for the people who make this city run. That’s what New Yorkers deserve. And that’s what we will keep fighting for every single day.

M-kopa: Five years. Five consecutive Financial Times rankings. One of only five companies on the continent to have done it since the list began, and the largest of the five by revenue. But the number that matters most to us isn't on any ranking list. 67% of our customers access health insurance for the first time through an M-KOPA device. The 42% for whom the M-KOPA smartphone is their very first phone, and the 86% who say M-KOPA has improved their standard of living. We're onboarding over 10,000 new customers every single day, with Nigeria becoming our fastest-growing market as we reached 1 million customers in 2025. Growth like this doesn't happen by accident. It happens when the model is built for the people you serve, not around them. As Jesse Moore, our CEO and Co-founder, put it: "We exist to make financial services accessible to the microentrepreneurs driving Africa's economy. The more we close that gap, the stronger we all become." Five consecutive years. The same mission. More people reached. Here's to the Every Day Earners who make it all matter! One thing that has significantly improved in Lagos over the last 10 years is traffic. Moving around used to be so scary and stressful, but it’s much, much better now, in my own experience. I wonder if it’s the same for everyone, or it's just along my regular routes.

This has been going on for 80 years, and heavily documented. The NYTimes finally scraped together enough integrity to publish something.

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…

When the government rehabilitates a once-dilapidated public facility, many of you immediately argue that it should be handed over to professional corporate managers for proper maintenance and sustainability. Yet, the same people turn around and complain when the facility introduces structured usage fees. What exactly is wrong with the management of the Olumo Tourist Center charging for commercial content production meant for public consumption? Today, almost everyone monetizes content on social media platforms. Creators earn from skits, films, YouTube videos, brand promotions, and digital engagements. So why is paying ₦50,000 to shoot a skit suddenly seen as outrageous? And what is unreasonable about a ₦500,000 fee for a movie production? A film crew could involve 30 to 50 people gaining access to the facility, using the environment, infrastructure, security, aesthetics, and public image of the location as part of a commercial project. Is it unfair for the management to place value on that usage? Do people genuinely expect everything to be free? You cannot demand capitalist rewards from your own content and businesses, while simultaneously insisting that public assets operate on pure socialism. Sustainability does not work that way. If movie shoots, skit productions, and other commercial activities are allowed free of charge, how exactly do you expect the facility to maintain its standards, preserve the environment, pay staff, provide security, and continue operating efficiently over time?

Dear @channelstv @ARISEtv @tvcnewsng @NTANewsNow, please when next you go for a media briefing with FCT Minister @GovWike, kindly ask him about the following: 1. Cows taking over roads, now including highways, in Abuja 2. Waste collection and mountains of refuse in various parts of town 3. Swarms of young children, who should be in school, begging at traffic lights and junctions under the supervision of adults sitting under nearby trees. 4. The pandemic of driving “one-way” against traffic. 5. Aggressive street traders, especially the ones selling windscreen wiper blades, who insist on putting their hands on your windscreen. 6. All commercial vehicles, including Keke, that believe that traffic lights don’t apply to them. Others may have other things to add but it would be good to get answers to these first. Thank you.
