@holisticff@PTSDchat_ We used to look forward to the Jerry Lewis Labor-Day Telethon, because TV stayed on all night! That's how it was with three broadcast station and PBS, that went off by midnight.
#PTSDChat Our room used to watch "Batman" at 0300! California time took me a while to get used to! Oh, by the way, is there anyone out there who used to watch "Romper Room at 2 or 3 in the morning out there too? Grown soldiers, romping it up in the middle of the night! 😂🤣
@holisticff@CosmicLifeOfMe Definitely. And there was a lot less advertising. We are inundated with things now. It really does help to take time to slow down. #ptsdchat
@holisticff I realize I've got a few years on you, but I'm not THAT much older! We were watching these shows in our barracks room, bro. In the 1980s!!! 🤣
@holisticff I lived past those archaic television times, into the age of cable! I used to hear the music, and then watch that snow, hoping something else would come on. Oh well now, there's a million channels, and I only watch a few of those. Strange, convenience didn't make TV better.
@PTSDchat_@CosmicLifeOfMe Wasn't it? #ptsdchat and there was absolutely no programming after that, just a blank screen. Unlike the 24/7 availability today. Life seemed much simpler back then, even if it was not. Shutting down the noise for a bit helped.
@CosmicLifeOfMe I was too young to watch Romper Room at 0300. Besides, back in the day the local programming shut off at midnight with the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner. #ptsdchat
@holisticff I've got to start using these affirmative starters, it's been rough the past few months. I've got to get on another page. Thanks for the input, #ItsEasierTogether!
being in recovery means realizing that we are not perfect and can stumble from time to time. When this happens, get in the saddle again, and lean into a circle of support. #PTSDChat
@CosmicLifeOfMe It is recovery for life, that is why the focus needs to move in this direction. Another recovery language example, instead of saying "relapse", reframe the statement and say "returned to use" #ptsdchat
#PTSDChat I think it hurts any number of people, when the focus remains on being traumatized, and not becoming stronger through the pain. Each person is in recovery for life. & that's the point: it's #RecoveryForMyLife! That light must be my guide, not my afterthought.
@CosmicLifeOfMe It is the loss of camaraderie and social connection that makes things seem disorienting. I thought I would feel that way after I left the fire service, but I was already working as a personal trainer. I also started volunteering to give me a renewed sense of purpose #ptsdchat
#PTSDChat One of my friends told me he wanted to disappear after he mustered out of the service. He couldn't reset himself to a civilian life. I feel that way at times, it can be disorienting, and during a triggered time? Frightening as all get out! It's not your fault.
