Pretty much, but it's not surprising The same way you haven't heard ONE comment about Game 5s 4th quarter, or the fact that they lost 2 games this series only shooting 39 and 41 3PA They had a higher percentage of FGA being 2s in their losses than 3s! (49.7% of FGA were 2s in losses vs 45% were 2s in wins) For the millionth time, the Celtics did not have a playstyle issue. They had an execution issue, whether it was from 2 or 3. Why people can't acknowledge that remains bizarre to me
Cameron Lopez@Cam_Lopez8

@StoolGreenie it's so annoying because they are counting 5 threes while down 5 or more in the final minute. All after the Jaylen missed 2 mid ranges that were far more valuable to the game.

@Samothecat @holl6948 I mean I've got a few names im watching for that would have an impact depending on how teams evaluate their situation. I think ur evaluating it from only one direction when Brad's shown the ability to pivot pretty well (e.g. kristaps trade with Brogdon)

@Samothecat @holl6948 Its bizarre sure but I think Brad looks at it fundamentally differently. There's value in both paths. He created a larger tpe he can use while also setting up another route for repeaters tax. It'll be interesting to see what he does. Im not convinced it needs to be Giannis

@hooksjohnston @holl6948 Yes, if the Bucks call and offer Giannis Brad will change the plan. 🤣 That is very unlikely to happen. Resetting the repeater is a big deal. Cutting to get just under the tax, then not staying under the next year would be extremely bizarre.

@Samothecat @holl6948 Undermines current team that you dont believe in them despite the success they were having. Also loses some leverage as teams know ur objective is to make a trade. Losing versatility hurts in trade negotiations.

@Samothecat @holl6948 Less convinced. Doing the tactical thing that doesn't impact the court doesn't mean it forces a choice later in the future. Versatility is an asset. I also dont think he'd say publicly yes I did this to have a trade asset cause we will go trade for someone this offseason

@Samothecat @holl6948 They also created a larger TPE thats usable in the offseason in that exact same move. Who is to say that wasn't the primary factor in the trade? Getting a larger tpe is huge.

Everyone talking about Giannis for the celtics but thats too obvious for Brad. Bro about to quietly trade for Steph Curry.

@holl6948 @Samothecat They used it for Vucevic this year to get under the lux tax and create a larger tpe (22 mill to 27.8 mill). You dont see TPEs usually large enough to acquire an all star.

@hooksjohnston @Samothecat They have never used any large TPEs they created for a significant player. They always let them expire or they waste it on some bench player that barely contributes.

@msriannbakes Especially when you consider tatum likely had a calf injury. He cannot play game 7 in that scenario. Team isnt good enough to take that chance. Be ready for next year.

not to be a fucking cunt truly but I don’t really get it did people think we were really going to.. win a championship this year? do you all think brad actually acts as if every season is a “we must win or everyone is getting traded/fired”? it’s just so dumb to have known the circumstances and still be talking like it’s 2023 and our MOMENT TO SHINE

Gap year Celtics were too flawed for playoff basketball. Pressure is on to build a contending roster around the Jays for 2026-27. No more gap year excuse with Tatum having a full offseason to get healthy.

@Samothecat Yeah agreed. We're arguing semantics mostly. I think you and I are pretty closely aligned. Ultimately I trust Brad Stevens. He's proven himself more than I ever could lol.

@hooksjohnston Look, if the Bucks call & offer Giannis I'm sure Brad would break the plan. But their big accomplishment over the last year was putting themselves in position to reset the repeater while also being a high playoff seed. There is immense value long term in resetting the repeater.

Something most fans don't realize: the Celtics made a series moves to get juuuuust under the tax line. The primary benefit of that is resetting the "repeater tax." To reset, they have to be under the tax again *next season*. Next year's team will be very similar to this squad.
TRADE JAYLEN BROWN@rathernot948

@Samothecat @PeterAxelson2 No chance whatsoever they waste another year of Tatum with the same centers

@Samothecat Eh kinda disagree. I would say it gives some excuse for Brad when negotiating trades that he's looking for value not immediate win. He can pivot to another strategy if needed that has value for him/org.

@Samothecat Im still personally skeptical that the prime directive is to reset the repeaters tax. I think it was more about versatility for this offseason. They could go that direction or seize an opportunity

Yes, this kind of thing is possible. I think they will have the ability to make some moves and add salary because the cap goes up, but it will probably be small cosmetic moves. Or you have to move White. But the fans who think we will make a splash will probably be disappointed. The plan appears to be making big moves in 15 months. I get this plan, but how does it fit with the age trajectories or White and Brown? That's why this path (keeping the core while getting under the tax for two years) never made sense to me. @PeterAxelson2

@Samothecat Yeah probably but whites play has slipped. I think it's increasingly likely they use him as a trade piece for a big man. Between vuc expiring and white as salary, Brad could make several moves while keeping salary below lux tax. Either way it'll be interesting to see

@Samothecat They traded simons for a big to get under the lux tax. Signing guys in that order makes sense cause it doesn't really impact the team and can open the door for resetting the repeaters tax. I viewed it as creating options not as a prime directive.

But they didn't just get under the second apron. They did very, very complicated and extreme cap gymnastics (trading Simons then signing guys to a bunch of short term contracts, one after the other) to get juuuuust under the tax line. Literally the only reason to do that is avoiding the repeater

@Samothecat Also I think theres an increasingly high likelihood derrick white is moved this offseason.

@Samothecat Possibly but also Brad's kinda proved he could shed cost without sacrificing product. That's just a generally good move so we don't know if getting under repeaters tax is a high priority (obviously has its benefits). It was primarily about getting under second apron imo
