This man has never read my poetry. But he thinks I'm too intellectual for "the people." In fact, he quotes, the reason poetry is only read by 12% of Americans, is because of its "high falutin" ways. The demand for mediocrity & capitalism's idea of poetry's worth is depressing.

Here's some (long) tough love for whoever needs to hear it ❤️ Over the past few months, I've been conducting in-depth interviews with artists & builders in Web3 many consider to be successful. The one commonality? Grit, an ability to adapt, and YEARS of hard work that have got them to where they are today. Even then, they still don't have it all figured out. All artists are entrepreneurs, and all entrepreneurs are artists. Either way, both professions are hard AF. It's easy to feel jealousy and even a sense of despair at all the craziness on the timeline, be it what feels like lucky memecoin wins or unethical scams. In my conversations, I've found that what sets successful people apart are: a) Their willingness to acknowledge that things ARE hard, but to show up anyway regardless of how many times they are rejected or fall flat on their face. b) Their strong sense of self and what success truly means to them versus what it means to someone else. I'm still a work-in-progress myself, and there are obviously days where I feel discouraged and beaten down by what feels like irrational hype in this space. Nonetheless, at the end of the day, I also know that no one owes me anything, and it is ultimately up to me to get my work seen and to get it to matter. If this week has been hard for you, take a moment to tune out the noise. Ask yourself first and foremost, what success truly means to you, and not the next person you're following on social media who just sold out a collection or raised millions in a memecoin launch. Then, ask yourself if you really have been doing everything you can to achieve it. If not, what does that look like? Maybe it's reaching out to form new connections, maybe it's leveling up your skills in a particular area... or maybe it's something entirely different and finding something else you could be even better at. Hang in there. Keep believing in and betting on yourself, or no one else will.
