Well that concludes Chicago’s FY2023 budget season! Both the budget management and appropriations ordinances passed 32-18 respectively.

Morning! Iyana, City Programs Director here, reporting live from Chicago City Council chambers. Today the council will vote on the FY2023 budget which includes increased staffing for environmental and climate issues.

@48Ward “We should have a Department of Environment. Period.”

@Andrefor40th states the city has unfinished businesses—we still need a Department of Environment.

@King4thWard emphasizes the precious resources we have like water and the air we breathe as reasons why we should have a Department of Environment.

@ChiAlderwoman highlights shoreline erosion and tornadoes in her ward as evidence that the climate is changing and the City needs more environmental support including a standing Department of Environment.
