As we begin 2026, my heart is with the people of this great state. Lagos is a daily test of grit, hope, and determination, and nobody understands that better than Lagosians. I see you. I see the traders, the workers and the young people chasing dreams. You carry this state on your shoulders, and you do it with courage. Governing Lagos is really about you. It is about ensuring that your hard work is not in vain and that your children have better chances than you did. This year will demand patience and cooperation from all of us. It will also require honesty about what is not working and the courage to fix it. I am committed to listening more closely, acting more decisively, and staying focused on what matters most, the everyday lives of Lagosians. I know many of you feel the weight of the economy, and I see the daily hustle it takes to keep going. The challenges we face are real, but they are not permanent. We are fixing the foundations so the next generation inherits a state that truly works for them. I ask you to keep believing in this state. My hope for every Lagosian this year is that your hard work meets the right opportunities. May your homes be filled with peace, and may your ambitions find the space they need to grow. Lagos is a city of grit, but it is also a city of grace. Let us carry that energy into 2026. Let us be kinder to one another, stay focused on our goals, and keep moving this great state forward together. Happy New Year, Lagos.

Yesterday, We Saw Nigeria Working As It Should For Anthony Joshua It took the French police ten minutes to get to the scene of Princess Diana's car crash, though it happened in metropolitan Paris. Please fact-check me. But it took the Nigerian Police Force less than ten minutes to get to the scene of Anthony Joshua's car accident, though it occurred outside a metropolitan area. Again, please fact-check me. It took French emergency response crews 101 minutes to get Princess Diana to the hospital, whereas Anthony Joshua was in a hospital within minutes. The total time was approximately thirty minutes. Just as Anthony Joshua's friends sadly died on the spot, likewise did Dodi Fayed and the driver of the car, Henri Paul, die immediately from the impact of the accident. The deaths, both in France and Nigeria, did not occur because of any negligence on the part of emergency first responders. They were a direct result of the collision from the accident. Both crashes were caused by speeding far above the legal speed limit. Bad roads were not a factor at all in either crash. The stretch of highway on which the Anthony Joshua crash occurred was very motorable and is a credit to Nigeria. Go back and watch the video. This was a six-lane highway with three lanes on either side, well demarcated, free of potholes, and with lanes clearly delineated. So, please tell me where Nigeria went wrong, or how we failed Mr Joshua in this sad episode that some unpatriotic citizens are trending things like 'Nigeria happened to Anthony Joshua'. Did Spain happen to Diogo Jota? Did Honduras happen to Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC? Did America happen to Fast and Furious star, Paul Walker, when he died in a car crash in California? I understand that, because of the intense negative slant of Nigeria's social media sphere, where it is easier to trend with bad news, a critical mass of our people has a confirmation bias toward negative stories. However, please take your time to Google how many times the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has saved the lives of Nigerians in and around the Lagos-Ogun axis. They even did this as recently as last week. Whether it is car accidents, building collapses, or fires, LASEMA has repeatedly done Nigeria proud. When you make a distress call through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines, you can be assured that LASEMA will be there in minutes. Instead of this Anthony Joshua incident being an example of Nigeria happening to you, yesterday's event was a case of Nigeria working well for Anthony Joshua. It should not be every time you run to social media to run down your country. Sometimes, instead of emoting, let us be rational people. Be proud of Nigeria and build her up. In so doing, you are actually building yourself. Reno Omokri

SANWO-OLU UNVEILS STRONG POLICY REFORMS AT 6TH LAGOS REAL ESTATE MARKETPLACE CONFERENCE  … Charges Investors On Infrastructure Investment, Innovation, Affordable Housing Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to position Lagos as a globally competitive, safe, and investor-friendly megacity, driven by infrastructure investment, innovation and the delivery of affordable housing. The Governor stated this while delivering the keynote address at the 6th Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference and Exhibitions, held on Tuesday, organised by the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) under the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing on Tuesday, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, with the theme “Shaping the Future of Lagos Mega City: Infrastructure Investment, Innovation and Affordable Housing.” Governor Sanwo-Olu described the conference as a strong demonstration of sustained global confidence in Lagos, noting that the State has continued to redefine possibilities in Africa through strategic governance, bold reforms and long-term planning. He highlighted Lagos’ growing population, youthful workforce, and expanding middle class as major drivers of real estate and infrastructure opportunities. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that Lagos has continued to invest heavily in roads, bridges, mass transit systems, digital infrastructure, and urban renewal projects to prepare the state for future growth. The Governor commended LASRERA for sustaining the platform, which he described as the “marketplace where ideas meet policy, capital meets opportunity”, and vision meets implementation. Speaking earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing described the conference as a global platform for addressing critical issues around real estate development and affordable housing. He noted that the strong presence of international investors further affirms Lagos’ rising status on the global real estate stage. According to him, Lagos has moved beyond vision to implementation, with the Ministry of Housing firmly committed to delivering affordable housing solutions that meet the needs of its growing population. He charged stakeholders to focus on practical, implementable, and market-ready solutions that would translate discussions into real outcomes. In her welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barrister Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, described the conference as more than an annual gathering, but a strategic platform for forging global partnerships aimed at delivering sustainable housing solutions for Lagos’ rapidly growing megacity. She noted that the presence of delegates from diverse countries reflects the universal nature of urban development challenges and Lagos’s attractiveness as an investment destination. Barr. Odunuga-Bakare highlighted that the Lagos Real Estate Marketplace has consistently served as an intellectual hub for practitioners and investors, with outcomes from previous editions already translating into tangible policy and regulatory reforms. She outlined several initiatives implemented by the State Government following the 2024 conference, including the proposed New Tenancy Bill currently before the Lagos State House of Assembly, expanded regulatory processes to improve transparency, increased public awareness on engaging licensed practitioners, and sustained stakeholder engagement to strengthen compliance across the sector. She further explained that the 2025 theme aligns with Lagos State’s bold development agenda, noting that the conference was designed to harmonise global expertise, regional opportunities, and local realities in shaping the future of the state. @jidesanwoolu @drobafemihamzat @thebbaproject @gbenga_omo @gboyegaakosile @LanreBajulaiye @BarrBimbola @Mr_JAGs @Riddwane #AGreaterLagosRising #LASG

Today, I commissioned the first phase of the Ajara Housing Scheme in Badagry, comprising 420 new homes for Lagosians. This project began years ago but was stalled for some time. When we came in, we resolved the long-standing challenges and got it moving again. I’m pleased to note that it’s the 24th housing estate delivered by our administration so far. Each apartment was built with quality and comfort in mind. We’ve also launched the second phase, which will add over 800 more units. Badagry continues to grow through our investments in roads, healthcare, schools, and housing. Together, we’re shaping a Greater Lagos, one community at a time.

Today, as we mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, I am grateful for how far we have come as a people. Our journey has not been without challenges, yet it remains a story of resilience, hope, and belief in a better tomorrow. This day reminds us of the responsibility we share to build a Lagos, and a Nigeria, where every citizen feels seen, heard, and empowered to thrive. Let us continue working together to hand over a brighter future to the next generation. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.
