We’re a week away from re-living 1996 live on the breakfast show @absoluteradio so quick question for the show today what would a Friday night in 1996 have looked like to you? Trip to Blockbuster video?

@Spm2369 Perfect as cover or impact sub - can play a range of roles. If he gets fit enough, could challenge for starting place. Needs to prove himself on that front though.

Not normally one for players returning but if we can get Hamer back for c£5m then it’s a bargain for someone who showed he can play in the Premier League then it’s a bargain, scored goals and created them. Great starting or off the bench #PUSB

I've never seen Messi with a special free kick goal aside that Liverpool own.

@StanCollymore Not as strong as previous squads, but could work in their favour; more of a team dynamic. He’s the manager to get that out of them.

@gmkonline Ben Watson? They’ve got Di Matteo in the top 3; I remember it being straight at the keeper who was badly positioned! Objectively speaking, Houchen’s is better than all 10!

I’ve seen the clickbait nonsense flying around the last few days and usually I let it slide — but in the spirit of being more real online, I thought I’d set the record straight for the tenth time for all the “journos” out there. Growing up in Bedford, I was football obsessed, but we didn’t have a big local club. From as young as I can remember every summer we’d spend six weeks in Ireland with family who were mad about Manchester United, so naturally I became a fan too watching Ronaldo, Scholes and the rest from afar on the TV. My dad’s a “Gaelic man, not a soccer man” and because he worked weekends and money was tight, I only made it to Old Trafford once as a kid. At the same time, I started playing myself. I ended up having trials at multiple professional clubs before joining the  junior teams at Luton Town, which is probably where some of the confusion from these “reporters” comes from. For clarity: I never supported Luton. Then came Coventry City - In 2016, my manager (a lifelong Sky Blues fan since 1985) took me to my first game. My nan was from Coventry, and my grandad and great-grandad were massive Cov fans, so I was curious to experience the city and the club for myself…

@SkyBluesExtra I think he should stay and fight with EMC for that spot on the left. He can cause some damage there. We need someone quicker off a yard and with better feet to lead the line in the Prem.

@ccfc_07 You could see by the trajectory of the ball in the ground - never a pen. Ref has to see that. We’ve had plenty like that not given. Don’t accept that it’s difficult to see in real time.

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

@gmkonline What a team though! Similar to Clough. He was never the same without Peter Taylor. Obvs different levels, but as much as they did need each other, the final word and team selection belonged to Clough and Robins.

@UKLabour I’ve always supported labour, but this is pathetic. They’re a party with interesting and challenging ideas that suit the 21st century. You’re a Thatcherite knock off with no idea how to restructure our economy!

Britain leads the world in film, TV, music and the arts. The idea that only some of us can be part of that is disgraceful. For 14 years Tory Ministers choked off chances and choices for young people. Don’t let them do it again - whether they now sit in the Tories or Reform.

@AyoCaesar Well done! Incisive and clear. Too much for the BBC. With Radcliffe, it’s not even the top players. It’s the entire Manchester United corporation that rely on hard working immigrants doing the tough, underpaid jobs. All of them pay taxes in the UK and fund the NHS. Unlike Jim!!!
