Heartfelt condolences to Imam Al Mahdi (atfs) and to all the believers on the martyrdom of Imam Al Jawad (as). He stood firm against oppression until he was poisoned and martyred in Baghdad under the Abbasid rule. May Allah curse his killers and his oppressors.

Things I need to experience: Arsenal trophy parade Chinese reunification party Iranian currency stability party
Blue Bear@Bluebearmonkey

@ryanl_hass @EvanFeigenbaum When the PRC reunifies with Taiwan, China will throw the biggest party in 1,000 years… if not the history of mankind. It will be orders of magnitude bigger than the Hong Kong handover and 2008 Beijing Olympics. Aren’t you excited? Don’t you want to see a party like that?

@Hieu00375359334 @NewsUpdatesFact It benefits the oligarchs to dollarize the economy. Iran is on par with Argentina with full fledged unregulated capitalism.

@hranikasz @NewsUpdatesFact This will create more harm than good to be honest. Why doesn't the government start dedollarization?

@Hieu00375359334 The graph shows the rial to USD exchange rate btw ^. Apologies for not explaining, the lower the bar the less rials needed to buy USD

@Hieu00375359334 Interest rates are secondary to what else should be done. Raisi implemented market interventions, multi-tiered rates: subsidised exchange rates for essential imports. More regulations to reduce rent-seeking too, all to positive effect. Raisi’s last months vs Pezeshkian’s

@NewsUpdatesFact @Hieu00375359334 Central Bank begun privatisation in early January too. I think it’s all part of the upcoming ceasefire agreement. Privatisation in exchange for sanctions removal.

@rostam_pechorin I don’t think the mullahs will go in the coming 15-25 years. Internal oligarchs are too satisfied with their economic mismanagement. The supporter base is too strong as well. Aside from economics - before we culturally progress we need to stop regressing first. Rn there’s trend-

I agree, I think setting outlandish goals like “we’ll be a democratic tech hub” after dumping the Mullahs is counter productive. We’ll be a secular something after they’re driven out. Hopefully we make rapid progress, but if everyone imagines that we can turn into the UAE or Israel in 10 years they’re going to be very unhappy when we’re just Turkey 25 years from now.

I’m a Silicon Valley Iranian American. Born and raised. The Iranians here are without a doubt the pinnacle of Iran’s human capital. The vast majority of us are still insecure, jealous, shallow creatures driven by prestige and wealth. Iran can be a tech hub like the UAE, but not like Israel. Iranians are far more like the Arabs than they are the Israelis. This is true in Iran, and in the diaspora. There is a fundamental issue of values at the root of this. Iran is not a first world country because IRANIANS ARE NOT FIRST WORLDERS. They weren’t under the Shah, they’re not under the IR, and they won’t be under a new monarchy or a republic. They don’t think like Westerners, they don’t have the same values as Westerners, and they don’t want their society to look like a Western one. Iran won’t be a first world “democracy” capable of being a hub for innovation and progress until its people start acting like an enlightened nation. And the last six months have shown that we are no where near that.
A.R. Oveissi@AmirRezaOveissi

Crown Prince @PahlaviReza is absolutely right: Iran has everything it needs to become a global tech powerhouse — brilliant minds, young talent, and huge potential. The only thing standing in the way is the Islamic Republic. Complete regime change, strong democratic institutions, and a prepared transition are the real path forward. The future of Iran belongs to its people, not the regime

@Hieu00375359334 The interest rate is 23% right now. The root cause of the currency collapse is neoliberalism. Oligarchs benefit from the devaluation of the rial. The currency market is in full fledged free-market mode. Little to no regulations.

@hranikasz The Iranian government can stabilize the currency by raising interest rate, pretty easy. Bad for those who owe the bank money though

@rostam_pechorin —The issue is everyone is society is stuck on who to model themselves after. Some people want to be like Turkey - a blend of East & West, others want to be like the OG diaspora; Westernising but maintaining core traditions

@rostam_pechorin I agree that Iran won’t develop until we develop a first-world mindset. But there is a desire to change & progress as a society. I was in Iran this time last year and mostly spent time with Middle-Class Tehranis Aside economics everyone’s complaint was about “فرهنگ” —
