I have several republican leaning people in my extended family. I know they are very uncomfortable around me at this point. They don’t feel that they can have their usual conservative talking points conversations without me speaking up loud and clear to counter it. Our relationships with each other have changed. I don’t know that it is particularly “sad.” It just is. If we were all “getting along” well because we were all pretending like it isn’t weird that we no longer talk about politics…you’d be hard pressed to show me how that is “better” than the way it is now. It’s not like we have big fights about anything, but the “everyone is on edge” thing is certainly a reality. Mostly because of me, in truth. My wife and I are the only democrats. My wife tends to be quiet and soft spoken. I….tend not to be. Families from coast to coast face similar situations. Debates about politics existed prior to Trump, but Trump nudged society to a different level of intensity. We took the bait. However, for me, personally…it’s been what I call the “Great Clarifying Event.” It has helped me understand exactly which family members I share DEEP values with. That has been useful, overall. Better yet, it’s helped me to better understand the foundation for many of the things I some family members say. I can immediately track it back to a specific belief they hold, and and in some cases, that helps me to not be as hard on them, as a human being, and to realize they simply have some cultish beliefs that lead to them making some of the silly ass claims they make. I don’t long for the past. I just accept what is. And…what is….is that my beliefs went through a re-examination after the insanity I watched during the Trump administration. People get uncomfortable when you change. They sense it as the footing they are standing on shifting and becoming unstable. To attempt to regain their sense of “everything is okay again” they work to get YOU to change back…to the way they had known you for so many years. With many people, they succeed. Peer pressure is hell, and many want so badly to be accepted…that they just reverse their position…and pick up where they left off. That’s a hollow existence. When you no longer fear not having the approval of others, you can finally figure out what kind and pizza YOU actually like, and cease that reflexive ordering of the Pepperoni pizza that your mother always loved. If you like Pepperoni, great. But without the need for approval….you can feel free to find out if there is another kind that is actually your favorite….and do so…without guilt. That’s livin’. As Roger Daltry used to sing, “Whooo are you? Who, who…who who?” Always be willing to find out.

@311Toronto …there’s a no parking sign between two houses on Wimbleton Road (140 and 142) in Etobicoke that is completely covered by a city tree. Is this something that you could take of? We are having issues with people parking and it’s difficult because we have no sidewalk

Ed and I have a arrived in Athens at the Lyceum of Aristotle. He was offered enrolment. But after a little thought he declined in favour of the Music Industry Arts programme at ⁦@FanshaweCollege⁩. Lyceum seems a little run down & we couldn’t find Aristotle either.

Sadly we had to say goodbye to our cat Slinky. He showed up out of the woods 6 years ago and insisted on staying. Sadly His heart was just too big and was working too hard. He gave a lot of love out of that heart. I just know that your bff was waiting for you at heavens gate.
