Black rhinos are among the world’s most iconic, and most threatened, species. 🦏💔 Classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN Red List, black rhinos continue to face severe threats from poaching, habitat loss and trophy hunting. Despite their vulnerable status, black rhinos are still targeted by trophy hunters, putting even more pressure on fragile populations already struggling to survive. But these extraordinary animals are vital to their ecosystems. As herbivores, they help maintain healthy grasslands and support biodiversity across African landscapes. Wild animals are worth far more alive than as trophies. Join Humane World for Animals in calling for an end to trophy hunting imports and stronger protections into the EU for endangered species. 👉 humaneworld.org/notinmyworld #HumaneWorld

‘Important and timely article on the continuing horrors of fur farming - an industry that has long brutalised animals and now threatens human health as well. Yet another reason the EC must put forward the legislative proposal to ban the production and sale of fur in the EU’. 👉🏻 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Most people across Asia do not eat dog or cat meat, yet millions of animals are still trapped in this trade every year. Together, we can help end this cruelty through awareness, education and stronger animal protection laws. 🐶🐱 Stand with us to end the dog and cat meat trade worldwide. Share this to help raise awareness and drive change. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty

Many animals in this trade are stolen pets or stray animals forced into horrific conditions, transported for days without food or water, confined in overcrowded cages and subjected to brutal slaughter. But change is possible. Across Asia, public opposition to this cruelty is growing, and governments are beginning to act. In 2024, South Korea passed a landmark law to ban the dog meat industry by 2027, a major step forward for animal protection.

As part of the @dogmeatfreeid coalition, Humane World for Animals delivered a joint petition with over 700,000 signatures to Indonesian embassies around the world calling for an end to the dog and cat meat trade - where 1 million dogs and countless cats are killed each year. The handover built on growing progress, including Jakarta’s landmark ban and a national animal protection and welfare bill (which includes a ban on the dog and cat meat trade) under consideration. Your voices add to the momentum for the bill to be passed. Thank you to our supporters who participated in this monumental effort! #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty

A major step forward for animals in Sweden 🇸🇪 A new Government Inquiry has confirmed what science and compassion have long made clear: Sweden can, and should, ban fur farming. With the last mink farms already closed following the 2025 phase-out scheme, the report paves the way for a full legislative ban, ensuring that no new fur farms can ever reopen. This is a historic moment for animal welfare. For decades, animals like mink, foxes and chinchillas have suffered in fur production. Sweden now has the opportunity to turn the page for good. We warmly congratulate our colleagues at Project 1882, whose tireless advocacy over more than 50 years has helped drive this progress. 💚 Now, the focus must shift to action. The Swedish government should move swiftly to enshrine this ban in law, and continue the progress towards a fur-free Europe. Learn more: project1882.org/news/sweden-ba… #FurFreeEurope

Pangolins curl themselves up into a tight ball when they feel threatened. This ball is impenetrable to natural predators, but it makes them an easy target for poachers, who can pick them up and carry them away, funneling the animals straight into the wildlife trade, where they are killed for their skins, meat and unproven medicinal treatments. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty

Each year, around the globe, trophy hunters kill hundreds of thousands of wild animals, for their bodies and body parts. They use cruel methods such as hounding, baiting, captive hunts and killing contests. Around 1,200 species are hunted and killed for trophies damaging natural ecosystems and conservation efforts. With your help, we can stop trophy hunting, through undercover investigations, public awareness campaigns, legislation and litigation, and conservation efforts. We're building a humane world, where wild animals stay wild and protected, and for the end of animal cruelty. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty

A leopard’s beauty was never meant for a wall. 🐆❌ As the vacation season approaches and travel plans begin, it’s worth asking: what kind of world do we want to explore, and protect? Solitary. Elusive. Powerful. Leopards belong to the wild: not on display, not as souvenirs. And yet, every year, more than 500 leopards are killed for trophies. In the past decade alone, over 5,200 leopard trophies have been traded globally - 1,440 imported by the EU. But the damage goes far beyond a single life. When a male leopard is killed, cubs are often slaughtered by incoming males taking over the territory, a natural response with devastating consequences. Trophy hunting doesn’t just remove one animal, it can destabilise entire populations. 🌍 This International Leopard Day, choose a different kind of journey, one that respects wildlife, not exploits it. 👉 Urge the European Union to halt the import of hunting trophies: 🔗 humaneworld.org/notinmyworld #HumaneWorld #NotInMyWorld

MYTH ❌ The only way to determine a drug’s safety is through animal studies. FACT ✅ Animal-free methods—like organ-chips made with human cells & tissues—enable scientists to develop safe & effective medicines that benefit people & spare animal lives. #MythBustingSeries

European Commission: this is your opportunity to champion animal welfare and make fur history! The scientific consensus is clear: it is not possible to protect animal welfare on cruel fur farm systems. ❌ A system that cannot meet basic welfare standards cannot be fixed. An EU-wide ban is the only way to end the suffering on cruel fur farms! Anything else would be #UnFURgivable #FurFreeEurope @OliverVarhelyi @EU_Commission

Over 90% of drugs that succeed in animal tests fail in human trials—highlighting the biological gaps between species that hinder real medical progress. So why is outdated animal research still used when non-animal methods like 3D tissue models, organ‑on‑chips, and AI exist? Funding inertia, bureaucracy, and regulatory reluctance are the key barriers we’re working to address. Read more: humaneworld.org/en/blog/why-ou… #HumaneWorld

More than 90% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in humans. So why do we still rely on animal research? 🤔 Our guests unpack the scientific and ethical flaws of animal testing and highlight the advanced, non-animal methods that are proving to be faster, safer, and more effective. We’re talking about better science for both people and animals.
