Look, I love Star Trek, I love Data, but one way you can tell George Lucas is really smart is because he was like, "What about instead of having to guide these things through a whole bunch of handholding Pinocchio bullshit and constantly defuse their life-threatening existential crises, you just pressed a button and they made a little chirp and happily did the job you actually built them to do? Imagine that! And then you could just have human relationships with actual humans! Wow!"

American Graffiti is a masterpiece of a movie that disproves the narrative that Star Wars was a fluke/Lucas can't direct. Not only can Lucas direct, he knows how to set the mood and keep you in it. From the very beginning and almost entirely throughout the movie, a rock-n-roll -

@DarthGrando @BigBlobApe @mightydudbolt @mobfighter63 His remarks proved to be correct over time. The Gen X/Millennial meltdowns over the Prequels and Clone Wars era, and the defamation of Lucas, both as a creative and a director, speak to the utter contempt for Star Wars as a singular vision championed by one man.

@BigBlobApe @mightydudbolt @mobfighter63 He just eventually just got put off by fandom. He was from a completely different generation and thought kids continuing to obsess over Star Wars after like the age of 9 was not a good thing

It's funny how much of the "ANH was saved from Lucas' bumbling" mythology comes down to misunderstandings about timing. Like, Marcia had already left the production by the time the "disaster cut" was screened for De Palma, Spielberg, etc

Bond shouldn't be "cinema". No Time to DEI was Bond trying to be "cinema". I don't need a boring, backlit Bond scowling over french horn farts. Make an action movie, retards.
Variety@Variety

Léa Seydoux says she sent a note to Denis Villeneuve after hearing he was set to direct the next #JamesBond film: “I was a bit sad when I heard that it was sold [to Amazon MGM], but now that it’s Denis, I was like, ‘Oh, at least it’s him, so it will be cinema.’” Read the full cover story: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHhhG

When Werner Herzog said the best film school is to learn how to do carpentry or pick a lock, art school brained cinephiles thought it was a sphinxian riddle. When he clarified that you can learn how to work a camera in one day but need to learn about life they all felt wounded.

A lot of people claim that the Star Wars prequels changed the Force from being something anyone could use into some sort of hereditary biological thing due to the mention of midichlorians. However, almost the exact opposite is true. It was the original trilogy, in Return of the Jedi, that made the Force a family trait as explained by both Yoda before he died and then Luke to Leia on Endor. By creating the prophecy of the Chosen One, Lucas actually painted himself OUT of that corner, and implied that the only reason that the Force was strong in that *one single* family was because Anakin himself was conceived by the Force. But everyone else? It doesn't matter who your parents are. That's why the Jedi must use some other measure to determine whether someone can be trained, and since George wanted Jedi to start being trained shortly after birth, the addition of midichlorians allowed him to provide the Jedi with an objective scientific method for determining someone's potential very early on. This does raise the question as to whether that was the *right* method to measure Force potential, since there are several times in the Saga where we see that people who overly rely on technology are actually in error or even straight up bad guys. Maybe a thousand years ago the Jedi would meditate and get visions of who was to be trained, but as their ability to use the Force became diminished over generations (as mentioned by Mace Windu in that one conversation he had with Yoda), perhaps the midichlorian counter became their go-to. And then as they became more dependent on that their Force sensitivity atrophied even further. Fun stuff to ponder. And then of course all of that just further highlights the stupidity of Disney's sequel trilogy, because TROS reveals that Rey is strong in the Force because she's a Palpatine and not someone randomly selected by the Force nor a descendant of the Chosen One. According to Disney, any offspring of any powerful Force user (even a Sith!) will be strong in the Force which begs the question as to why Palpatine would have sought apprentices like Maul or Dooku or Vader in the first place if he could have just sired an army of loyal Sith warriors on his own. But I digress since that's all bad fan-fiction anway. My main point is that the Chosen One prophecy provided nice context as to why the Skywalker family was unique in having hereditary Force potential, while still allowing any number of other people to become Jedi as originally indicated by ANH and ESB.

White liberals are the worst demographic. They are mostly 105-15 IQ, ‘educated’ just enough to be dangerous (not realizing how little they know), they are ferociously hostile to other whites who challenge their views - impervious to reason. Still proud to be Obama voters.
Variety@Variety

Adam McKay says "no group is worse" for America and its politics than "white liberals": “We are being hit with the high-grade marketing and no group is worse than white liberals. I mean, they are the worst. I’ve tried to talk to them about climate, they are so smug and captured. And it boils down to privilege. I mean, when you talk to white moneyed liberals, they’re getting a lot from this broken system.” variety.com/2026/film/news…

When Spencer Pratt said to Nithya Raman at the debate, ‘Yeah come to the hobo encampment under the bridge and offer them beds - see how that goes, I will watch you get stabbed in the neck,’ it felt like a TKO, it felt like he ended her carefully choreographed and rehearsed mayoral campaign right there. Lib politics feels very fragile right now, all it takes is one charismatic person successfully ridiculing the unrealities they’ve constructed and depend on and the whole edifice collapses.

The real lesson from Trump is that you can go ahead and just Say What Everyone’s Been Thinking and the response can be really powerful. It’s a good lesson for any area of life—and in a best case scenario it will shape the politics of the next century.
