@hunter_sbs I guess I should be more appreciative , I dont think I would do very well with everyone that close. My vegetable garden in the back yard is almost 65 square meters, and the full property is 8095 square meters ....and I still complain my neighbors are too close.

@askaya あくまで「米国人/欧州人」が基準になるかもしれないが… 日本へ来る白人系の方々には、嫌悪感を抱くようなことはありません。大体の価値観が似ていてマナーも良い、そして日本へのリスペクトを忘れない。(たまに羽目を外す人も居るが、数が少ないので気にしていない。)

日本人は白人について本当はどう思っているのだろうか?

@tibblion2 @gatorgar 有名なのは「ネーデルランド」ですよね。何故か「Dutch」と表現されている。国は「Netherlands」と表現されるのに。 「Deutschland(Germany)」の人々を表すはずなのですがね。

@hunter_sbs @gatorgar We have root words borrowed from many European languages. So we can pick up shared words sometimes. Though in some languages the sentence structure is entirely different.

I will say it’s quite endearing the way the Japanese have been referring to us Americans as big brothers 🤣

@tibblion2 @gatorgar しかし中華人民共和国の「簡体字」は、日本人にも台湾人にも香港人にも全く読めないということがあります。何故なら「略され過ぎてしまって文字の原型が無い」からです。同じ「漢字圏」でも、これほどの違いがあるというのも、言語は興味深いですね。

@tibblion2 @gatorgar それとは別に「面白い現象」があって、我々日本人は台湾や香港の「繁体字」は、日本人が昔使っていた漢字と似ていることが多いので「意味が通じる」ことが多い。そして日本の「常用漢字」は、多少略されていても形が似ているので「繁体字圏の方々」にも意味が通じます。
